Para 3 Lightweight Exclusive/Sprint Hopes

#1

Post by SG89 »

The Para 3 Lightweight seems like a perfect platform for exclusives, so what are you guys hoping to see?
I'm hoping for a Brown FRN with CTS-XHP, Grey FRN with Cruwear, and Red FRN (or blue) with M390.

Or actually just BD1 with multiple color options would be fine with me to keep cost low

I'd be on board for all of those options. The brown frn with cts-xhp would be very tempting, as I see the previous exclusive of that combination in the Manix 2 LW seems to be a favorite of many that own that knife.

Already thinking of giving that black frn a RIT dye treatment. Yet to try that out.

Yes to all of the above. :)

I'd totally love to see sprints in the P3 LW. KW could do green 204p, DLT could do red 20cv, CS could do Orange XHP...the possibilities are really enticing.

I'd love to see M4 (BHQ?) and 4v too. :)

Right when I was ready to start unloading some of my Para 3's, now this opportunity will inevitably come along and I'll end up with more than I started with haha!

LC200N. With only a partial liner for the compression lock, the Para 3 Lightweight can easily be made in a Salt version.

Leave the steel options with the Para 3 HW.
Can you find it and can it cut?

Eric stated in at least one video; they plan to do sprints/exclusives for the Para 3 lightweight.

I’d love a CS orange Para 3 lightweight! CTS-XHP would be the most likely steel, but S90V is possible I’m sure. I could actually carry that one. The textured orange G10 is a canvas for nearly anything that comes in contact with it. I think a plastic or smooth G10 in orange color would make that problem go away.
I also LOVE the idea of K390/Smoke combo. Never tried the steel, and I always like seeing a “smoke” option. “Maxamet grey” for lack of a better term (like the native 5/Manix 2) would be nice too.

Why exclusives and not sprints ? Cruwear is my cup of tea .....

I'd love to see cruwear and/or k390 in a stainless laminate like they do for the hap40 blades.

Aside from LC200N, I'd rather see BD1N (assuming it is as good as advertised) make it's way to more models than see the Para 3 LW platform get more steels.

Exclusives shift some of the burden of a speculative production run onto the dealer/distributor. Instead of Spyderco having to gamble on the sales of a model, they get to share the financial risk with someone else. it actually makes quite a lot of sense from a business standpoint.

Spyderco has to take on 100% of the risk on a sprint or flash batch themselves.

Obviously the ultimate way to get exactly the Spyderco you want is to order an entire exclusive run. You get to spec out everything, but you take the risk that other people won't like it, too. ;)

Will they let you do that if you're not a Spyderco dealer? I wouldn't think so.

It would be cool if there was a massdrop-like site for voting on and then funding Sprint runs.

K390 , K390, and K390.

I'd like this for sure in the current G10 version. Not sure about the LW yet till I get to handle one in a few months.

The only vote that counts is your money. It is one thing to click your preferred choice on a website. If this were to to work, we would have to hand over money first. Maybe Spyderco could hold the money in escrow. Enough people pay, then the knife gets made. If not, the money is returned. Of course, online transactions require payment processing, which takes a percentage of the sale price. In the event that the knife doesn't get enough support, you may not get the full amount back.

Massdrop itself works for that. Wasn't that basically how their Super Gold Endura/Delica sprint run worked?
