Spydiechef But Larger

#1

Post by Doeswhateveraspidercan »

Once again found myself heavily using the Spydiechef in the kitchen and not having enough blade length.

I am pretty sure Spyderco has no intention of making this knife larger / longer , so I am asking the following questions.

Is there anything Spyderco makes with a blade that has such a perfect belly for kitchen use? It does not need to be a folder can be fixed blade.

If Spyderco does not then any other good brands that do?

Really wish the Spydiechef were much larger.

They do have a line of dedicated kitchen knives.

I have seen them but nothing with that blade shape which is what I am after.

The pronounced belly on that little knife is incredible. Last night I used my Spyderco Stretch2 in VG-10 to breakdown a whole chicken and can see what a wonderful skinning knife this makes cuts right through bones and gristle no problem. So sharp I can shave the meat from the bone.

Then for the fun of it I used the Spydiechef to finish up and oh what a joy in the hand it misses noting on the cutting board with that pronounced boat shaped blade.

Good suggestions, thank you.

Love both he Kapra and the Amalgam and both are on the radar after a few more sales of current collection but still need more pronounced belly like the chef. I guess I would call that a boat shaped sheepsfoot blade.

I suggest the Spyderco 6" Santoku Knife K08PBK.

Modify the tip to more curved if desired, the blade stock is thin and will easily be reprofiled.

I agree the Spydiechef has a blade that is very short for kitchen duty.

Interesting and I guess I could always change the bade shape to have more of a boat to it with my Ken Onion grinder attachment. Anyone know anything about the MBS26 Steel? Too bad it is not VG-10.

The Hundred Pacer, with its 4” blade, is the closest thing to the SpydieChef in a larger folder. It works quite well in the kitchen.

^^^^ This. I think it's even better in the kitchen than the chef.

Besides the nice belly, when you cut on a board, you can keep your finger under the knife since the blade sticks out. And the tip is great to debone meat.

Thanks guys just ordered the hundred pacer will be sure to report how I like it, the cutting edge to blade ratio is just plaing sick it is better than some fixed blades that are longer. Looking forward to it as a unique piece to use.

If I'm not mistaking the custom Spydiechef was a bit larger than the production version, I don't know why Spyderco decided to dumb it down...

Maybe we get lucky with Spydiechef 2 if Spyderco marketing department doesn't decide to cut too much out of that expensive metal :D

Tough to go wrong with a Victorinox Chef knife. Most use I've ever gotten out of a $30 knife. Mine saw 8 years of commercial kitchen use and 6 years home use and is still going strong.

Does it fold? If you insist I guess it does, but probably only once :D

And still a folder? Then I would recommend the Kapara. Image

If not just wait for the Bow River to be released.

If you're in your own kitchen, the knife folding is a drawback more than anything. EDC food prep, sure, but being in your own kitchen why use a 3" folder?

Huh? More like, Spyderco decided to acknowledge knife-length jurisdictions and offer a length that would work in most.

Lol sorry here we can not agree, I switched to using a Spyderco Hundred Pacer and never even look at the knife block anymore. No reason too at all. 4 inch Trailing point with big belly gets it all done in the kitchen.

Besides that gives me another excuse to use my Spyderco’s

This photo is from Marcin Slysz’ Instagram. This his version of a larger Spydiechef and it is MUCH more like what I was hoping for with the original. I owned and loved the original (before gifting it to a friend) but a spyderco version of the knife in this picture would be a homerun for me!
