Selling your once grail knife
So the slysz bowie used to be my grail, but as the title states I find myself getting rid of it. Anyone else get their grail just to catch and release?

:D Don't sell it, mod it. This is perfect (for me) 3" blade, a slicing machine.
SCARAMOUCHE!

Re: Selling your once grail knife
I have never owned a grail. I don’t think that for me personally that such a thing exists.
The are different knives for different uses/applications and maybe even just different knives for different moods but there is no one superior knife for me.

Yup.
Former "grails" I ended up parting with (Only after using them mind you, never catch and release)
1. Tip up wire clip Para 1. Sanded the pinky hook so I could manage a 4 finger grip behind the choil. Too small. Went back to the Millie.
2. Tip up BG42/CF Military. Didn't like how BG42 sharpened, switched to the CPMD2 Millie.
3. Lil Temp. Awesome handle, too small of a knife though. Went back to the Millie.
4. C95 Manix. Decided I liked the more narrow blade profile and lighter weight of my new Police 3 better.
5. Hossom Forester. Thought it'd be the best chopper. Compared it to a RAT9 and Scrapyard Dogfather. Preferred the Dogfather, still own it, sold the other two a decade ago.
6. Para 2 DLC. Better ergos than the 1, longer blade, factory tip up, and very corrosion resistant. Went back to the Police / Millie after having lock issues and deciding it was kind of small.
7. CTS204P Millie. This looked like the ultimate Millie from the currently available options when I bought it. Went back to the Police. After years of being indecisive about whether I prefer the Police or Millie, the Police won out.

The Jot Singh Khalsa.
I love quirky stuff and when the Jot Singh Khalsa came out it ticked all those boxes for me. Only thing I did not like was tip-down carry & it takes up some room in your pocket. Started carrying it less & less till it was mostly a safe queen. In-between jobs & money was tight so I sold it. Really like the look of the recent Sprint Run, but money was tight. With 2 teen boys I expect money to be tight for a while lol.

I’ve done it with a old nail nick Mnandi my grail I eventually sold it with regret ...
And an Olamic Busker It took me a year to get it I sold it in a week no regret.
But I replaced those with the Chaparral 3step ti blue and the Native sunburst Ti ...both the Spyderco’s cost about as much as the Busker total and both were about 1/2 of what the Mnandi cost that made it easier.
Those two spydercos I love and never see me selling!

Don't believe in the Grail, there will always be others

Lum Tanto Folder.
Bought and sold two seperate versions, wasn't ideal for my knife tasks. Still beautiful though.

My long time grail was the 25th anniversary Delica. Finally got it and...I'm not releasing that thing unless some sort of catastrophe strikes. :D Same thing goes for my 9/11 D'Allara.

Re: Selling your once grail knife
As others have said, I am just not a believer in the Grail knife or the "one knife to rule them all". I have a lot of knives I enjoy on different occasions and for different reasons. I suppose I could rephrase the question as "have I ever sold (or gotten rid of) a knife then decided to get it again. If so, that would be my Benchmade Griptillian. I favor the hollow ground model of that knife with 154CM steel and a round hole (big surprise about the hole, eh?). I lost my first one (in the Grand Canyon), bought a replacement and ended up giving it to a friend. At this point I don't have one, but could feel good about picking one up again. It is far and away my favorite Benchmade. Spyderco has had a way of siphoning off all of my knife budget though for quite some time. The 154 steel might be the biggest reason -- I don't think that is used in any production Spydercos at this point, and a guy really should have a knife with 154.

I bought my first Spyderco in 1988. I had no idea I'd become obsessed
