YES! Keep it backlock!

I think this is going to be my favorite Spyderco folder of all time, hands down. I'm not a fan of thumb ramps at all, and while knives like the Millie and Police 4 give my thumb enough space to breathe, it gets in the way when I choke up on the choil. This design looks so comfortable and versatile.

That design would be a lot better with a comp lock. :)

I’m pretty happy with my Shaman as is. I’m interested in this knife too but I feel like the Native Chief is less compelling now that I have a Shaman. This is all just my personal opinion though. I understand the differences and why people are excited for this knife. Id still probably buy one.

With the Manix Backlock being discontinued I really have to wonder if backlocks are a good way to slow down sales of an otherwise popular design. I’d like to see the sales for the lil native comp lock vs the lil native backlock. I’d bet the comp lock version is selling better. The way the market seems to view backlocks as boring or something despite their robustness as a lock.

If the Spyderco rhino was a backlock or linerlock would there have been such a frenzy? I don’t think so.

So perhaps selling the Native Chief with a backlock is a surefire way to make it a slow seller. It’s a shame, but I suspect it’s true. Then again, the original Native must do well, Spyderco has been selling it for years. I don’t know. I’m rambling while waiting for my Sushi. :o

I would like to try the power lock. Tatanka is discontinued and maybe too big for practical use. Chinook is also available but don’t know how well it leaves the self defense category.

Until you've held the Chief, you can't say anything. This knife is better than the Shaman in my book, but in reality they are complete opposites. The Chief is slender while the Shaman is fat and bulky(relatively).

The Chief is a Native 5, stretched by an inch. As of Blade 2018 in ATL, it is FFG and perfect.

Well bearing in mind the new fight club policy on future releases, they may already be working on this... or maybe not. Remember the first rule of future releases is... we do not talk about future releases :D

Only an inch?

So, not in the Police/Calypso/Millie range... Over the years, I had imagined the Chief would be biggish.

Not carping about an extended Native, mind you. I love the Native5.

Is that extra inch the blade only or just overall?

Inch of blade, 2+ inch overall. It's the size of a Calypso.

I can't wait! No problem with a backlock/powerlock!

This is THE model to which I'm most looking forward. I really hope it becomes a staple in the spyderco lineup.
