Well, unless the Respect Bowie and/or Native Salt drop in the next few weeks, those two preorders will carry over into 2019. Aside from that, it's going to depend entirely on what's new in Spyderco's 2019 catalog that intrigues me. Based on recent years trends and my tastes I'm not really expecting there will be much, but we'll see what it brings.

I'm waiting to see what the steel is. If something pops up and its A11 or K390 around 3 inches I will grab it. That might lead me to sell my K390 Urban but who knows.

I finally decided to bite the bullet and list a good portion of my knives...

Now what new knives shall I put on my list? >:)

Frn caly 3.5 and frn police are the only knives on my list at the moment but theres always room for more. For instance, If I Somehow manage to slip and fall through the multiverse into a parallel universe where Byrd and Spyderco designs get mixed up leaving the Delica and Endura with finger choils like the Meadowlark and Cara Cara. If that were to occur, I would have 2 more on my list!

Continue working on self control :)

The amount of time (and money) I spend buying and selling knives has been part of the hobby for me, but I really think it could be better spent, even if it is still related to knives.

I still have few knives on preorder (Bow River, Providence) and a few in my sights (FRN P4, FRN Caly 3.5, anything in K390), but regardless...

Here's hoping the 2019 catalog ruins all new year's resolutions!

Cheers! :D

I’d like to see what other steels are like. I went from a Tenacious 8cr13mov to S110V, and that’s all I have is S110V of my only (2) knives.

I’d like to try Maxamet, maybe even CPM M4.

Oh and I want the (400) grit wicked edge diamond stones for finishing an edge with.

I go from 2-6-8-10-12-14. I have to spend along time lightly stroke with the 200 before I can move to 600.

I started collecting in 2017. Since that time I have spent almost $20,000 and have approximately 85 knives. I assume I'll keep that pace in 2019.

You have me beat! I started "collecting" about the time I joined this forum (Jan 2016). I'm also at about 85 knives but I've only spent just over $8K. I don't feel so bad now.

I like that really thin bevel. Is that 20 DPS? Maybe even 25dps.

Not sure but I think you're looking at blade's "hollow grind". If so, that not the actual edge grind.

No plans here. Didn’t have any last year either and managed to acquire more than I have in years past. Maybe I need a plan... But the catalog is a starting point.

No, I’m looking at the very edge of it. It looks very small. How does it cut? Maybe that’s how a hollow grind should be so dunno

I think it needs to be rebeveled.

2018 was largely a quest for my best all-around EDC knife. After many years of carrying a Delica and oft heralding it's excellence, I had to ask myself, what if I'm missing something? It was going to be a Spyderco and I had a few general preferences but I just sort of tossed myself at it. I ain't getting any younger and it would suck if there was a knife I liked better but never tried. I bought around a dozen, not counting those designated as specific gifts.

In the end, I discovered my previously purchased M2LW was the right one for me. So, I got the Cutlery Shoppe S90V exclusive which is freaking awesome but then realized that the BD1 does just fine and is super simple to maintain so it pretty much lives in my pocket.

2019 will likely see the continuation of what has already begun in late 2018 and that is focusing on trying out different kitchen cutlery and filling out my bench stone desires.

I know that I lead some folks to become serious Spyderco loyalists in 2018 and I hope to do so again in new year.

All that said, Sal, can we please talk about more wire clips...? :)

I forgot about the Waterway, which should be coming out next year. That's a must buy for me.

Sorry my bad. I didn't read what you wrote close enough. I thought by "thin" you meant 20° or 25° degrees inclusive. I read right past "dps".

You're right, the edge bevel does look short but that's likely a product of the hollow grind. I have a BNIB Gayle Bradley and the edge looks to be about the same height as Abbazaba's GB2. I checked mine with my edge angle gauge and it's about 30° inclusive. I also measured behind the edge and it's. 016" which is fairly thin considering the .130" blade stock thickness.

Regardless of the actual edge angle whether or not it needs to be reprofiled is a preference thing. I've had plenty of knives that came from the factory with a 20 dps edge and they cut just fine. Maybe they weren't as good as they could be but they were plenty sharp. We have a Santoku kitchen knife that had a factory edge that was at least 25 dps, and likely more. I reprofiled it a few months ago but only to 20 dps because my girl uses it for light chopping. I sharpened it last night on the Sharpmaker and it was easily gliding through phone book paper when I was done. So it's very sharp and will cut just fine yet the edge should be fairly strong.
