Thanks Sharp Guy.

Tps3443, the bevel was stock in that photo from 2 years ago and probably between 15-18dps. Both Gb2s I've had were very thin behind the edge, making for a "thin" looking edge bevel.

I highly recommend picking up a GB2. It's a very nice knife at any price, and a good way to try out both M4 and a great hollow grind.

^ I still need to get me a GB2 just to have along with my GBs.

Oh, I forgot to say in my initial post: no more super steels that take forever to reprofile for me next year. I need some time off from that. I'll get the Police 4 in ZDP189 if it comes out next year. Other than that, I don't want anything crazy. Will probably avoid s90v or s110v. I just don't like reprofiling them and I have a lot of the stuff anyway. May avoid m4, but I do love using the stuff so idk. No real issues with 20cv and variants so that's on. Next years steel purchases will probably be lc200n and s30v. Hap40, cru wear, 3v, 52100 if I can get it.

^ That's one of the reasons I like 1095 and O1 when it comes to fixed blades.

For 2019, I plan on...
buying THE NATIVE CHIEF
Researching until I know of every spyderco ever made
Finding all folding knives in the 4.5-5" blade range
Finding a good small FB with a pocket sized sheath
Hopefully, buying something in Maxamet
Buying a spyderco bench stone
Obtaining another CS knife in XHP before they disappear

And lastly, designing and building my own folding knife from hardwood and a Nicholson file to test out a locking mechanism I've had in mind.

Darn, if I didn't absolutely need a bigger blade I'd get that one in a heartbeat. The knife would occasionally be used for cutting rope 4-5 inches thick.

I will buy some and sell some. I am currently trying to buy less knives but I am also trying to spend more per knife. In 2019 I plan to continue to refine and improve the collection. The steel junkie in me will also buy any new steel I can get my hands on.

At one point I had more folders than I knew what to do with so I moved to acquiring mostly fixed blades. Now I have too many fixed blades. This year may be focused on Japanese kitchen knives.

  • Continue my search for the perfect EDC knife legal at my workplace (under 2.5" blades only).
  • Continue my search for a workplace that doesn't have this restriction (hey, I know where my priorities are).
  • Expected Spydie purchases include a Domino, a Dice, a Smock, a Shabaria, a VToku Meerkat, an Amalgam, and whatever vintage Nishijin sprints I can squeeze in.
  • Expected non-Spydie purchases include a Holt Specter, a copper Spider Monkey, a Helle GT, and an assortment of vintage Benchmades (730, 812, 880S, 885S, 886BT)
  • Get rid of some of the knives I simply don't use as much.
  • Get some nice third-party scales for the Southard, Domino, Dice, and, if anyone makes them, the Positron.
Plans are sure to change as 2019 releases start to get announced.

I started collecting in 2017. Since that time I have spent almost $20,000 and have approximately 85 knives. I assume I'll keep that pace in 2019.
You have me beat! I started "collecting" about the time I joined this forum (Jan 2016). I'm also at about 85 knives but I've only spent just over $8K. I don't feel so bad now.

Bow river and an Autonomy are on my wish list. With the price on the Bow, I may buy a couple to keep several different places.

You know. There is something you have to watch out for, and I have seen this in other hobbies. That is getting hooked on the joy of acquisition. The thrill of getting something new. The anticipation of a box in the mail. This is a danger and a hazard.

So ..... I intend to enjoy the knives I have more in 2019 and be more circumspect about new purchases.

Completely agree. I've got 2 display stands in my workout/knife room. They hold 6 knives each. I tell myself I don't need anymore knives than can fit on those stands. I currently have 11 and am patiently awaiting the Smock to drop. My problem at the moment is, I can definitely see myself getting the Kapara at some point, so I'll have to sell off one of my others. Only problem is, I enjoy using all 11 that I currently have! I don't want to break my rule to myself so I need to figure out which one will go.

In 2019 I'm going to try and be more disciplined in my spending. If I acquire something new, I will force myself to sell one that I love. A vicious cycle!

Moderation as well. Used 2018 to buy/fondle/sell countless models to see what I liked best. The Native Salts will be must haves for me. Interested to see what else comes along. Any folders in Cruwear, 4V, or 3V (2019 is the year!) will get strong consideration from me. The LC200N Pac Salt is one im watching for as well.

I've been carrying my LW Chap the most these days, so a Salt Version of that is really my dream EDC at this point.

Spydergirl and others, would you ever consider purchasing and carrying for everyday use a Spyderco Moran fixed blade or not likely?
