Hi LC200N,

No problem. I understand the frustration. It's also quite frustrating on our end to end up with a glitch that delays production of a new model. A real PITA for sure. On the Natives, we ended up coating the clip and hardware as we were concerned about the hardware rusting. It took longer to test and modify than we'd expected. In the end, you will get a better product. I believe they're shipping now or very soon. I've been testing a production piece in a Salt water environment for a few weeks.

You have a Merry Christmas as well.

(You also get to own a knife with your screen name engraved on every knife ;) )

hi LC200N,

Welcome to our forum.

Patience is a good thing. Upset gains no points here. They should be shipping soon. They are very nice.

You can cancel your order if you want to.

sal
I'm surprised at this comment.

There's something to learn from honest feedback, even if not expressed exactly the way you'd like it to be. In this case, maybe the lead time on pre-orders needs to be sharply reduced, especially when there is high uncertainty. Pre-orders create an entirely different level of expectation than just an announcement that a knife will be released at some point in the upcoming year.

i feel like this would've been nice to hear a few months ago. i know you don't owe it to us, but it goes a long way in keeping threads like this at bay and keeping people that have them on pre-order happy. we all love you guys and your products, so i think most people would be understanding if they knew what the hold-up was.

Hi Sparky,

I always appreciate honest feedback and I always try to respond appropriately. LC & I are fine. I would like to comment that pre-orders are not generated by Spyderco. If a new item is planned for date X and a glitch occurs, which is often with new models, production is delayed until the product is right. Some companies will issue pre-orders long before we think it would be proper.

I will often hint at a new model to create interest, anticipation and discussion, but that will probably change in the future. As seen, it often creates disappointment. We're considering not even mentioning new models until they're ready to be released.

Hey Ladybug,

I would be the person that can and does that at times. But I don't pay attention to what companies put up pre-orders. When asked, I try to respond. honestly.

I would be sad to not have as much of an opportunity to give feedback on designs before they came out. But I can't say that I'd blame ya Sal.

we all like the transparency we see from spyderco. i don’t think any of us would want to trade that to be a little less disappointed about waiting a few months longer than we expected.

sal,

before you cut us off, any chance we'll see the native salt in all black or black blade and hardware with yellow handles? will we see spyderedge or combo edges? pretty much any of these combinations would make me jump for joy. :)

thanks.

and, for what it's worth, i wouldn't blame you guys for keeping things quiet until release either, but i sincerely hope it doesn't go that way.

Hi Ladybug,

The Native Salt that I have has black hardware and clip, yellow handle and satin full flat LC blade. If it's well received, my guess is that Eric will add, black handles, black blades and serrations. The LC serrations tested very well.

Please, not.
It was listed in the 2018 catalogue and many dealers have it also on their site. So the information is already there, anyways.

Some details and insights are nice to make the waiting sweeter. More insight means gaining more knowledge and a better understanding for the design.

I was under the impression the production models would have satin lock bar, clip, and hardware. We they in reality be black?

I agree, I enjoy things exactly as they are. The only people who get upset are those who have not taken the time to look for the information about this knife's hiccups(which are out there).

I appreciate what you guys do and the care with which you do it. Thank you Sal and everyone else at Spyderco.

Sal,

Is the coating meant for rust resistant? If yes, can you share the reason not using the same hardware material for Seki salt series?
If no, then it’s aesthetic decision, which Spyderco can decide anyhow and I don’t see much difference, probably it will look cool with the contrast color.

Hi Chris,

It's for corrosion resistance. Seems to be more of a prob with US hardware. Seki clips are Ti. Which we may go to eventually.

What would the cost increase be to make all the hardware out of LC200N?

Hi, Sal, please don't do that. It's nice to know about something even if it is two catalogs away. Also, people like me in public education have to save a bit to get anything, so it is always appreciated to be given a signal when to add a little extra to the piggy bank.
Although, I will say, the occaisional surprise is nice.

Sal, I like hearing hints about what's in the works. I think most of us here do.
