Models That Absolutely DESERVE Sprint Runs

#1

Post by JD Spydo »

It goes without saying that many of us here at Spyderville have our own distinct favorite models and designs from years past>> especially those of us who have been here long enough to appreciate many of the past models. But to me there are some past models/designs that just absolutely deserve to be in a Sprint Run with updated materials. Especially older models that never got the luxury of being tested with a newer/better blade steel. For instance I've wondered many times just how great of a user the C-60 Ayoob would be with a premium new blade steel like M390 or S20V for starters>> because we've only ever got to try that one in VG-10 unfortunately.

Many Spyderville citizens recently have brought up the KRIS model and it would be so cool to see how it would do with a newer/better blade steel. Or even a newer, more advanced handle material as well. Some of those older models were so good that the only improvement they need is a new blade steel and in some instances a new handle material. I've often wondered what an old TEMPERANCE 1 fixed blade model would have been like with a G-10 handle and a supersteel blade. Also some of you have wondered what some past models would be like in different edge types too.

OK I know many of you have your older Spyderco model favorites that you believe deserve to have a Sprint Run. Just name the model, the desired blade steel and what you think a better handle material would be for that specific model. And I don't care if you're talking a folder or fixed blade.

The Slysz Bowie. Only been a year but it deserves a rewind.

C55 Terzuola Starmate, 20CV/M390/204P. I think the G-10 scales are fine as is.

C114 Phoenix, M4, carbon fiber and titanium.

Centofante 3 with dark green g10 and Sage 5 w/titanium scales. I'd actually love to see some of that copper infused marbled CF (not sure what it's called) on any upcoming sprint!

I think the Rookie would be a great choice for a sprint in K390.

I also think the Ulize would be a good one to bring back for a sprint run. I'd prefer to see it again in plain edge, but I know i've heard suggestions to bring it back in serrated edge.

And a personal favorite that I'd like to see a sprint of would be the Zulu. Would love to see it in all black, like the first PPT sprint run.

Probably not going to happen, and these designs may not necessarily "deserve" it, but the Mouse and Titanium Peter Herbst

The Herbst never even got a first chance with the serious qc problems

Another vote for the C22. I'd buy any new version they put out. Tip up wire clip would be awesome though.

Gayle Bradley folder. Change the scales to a grippy G-10. Change the steel to Cruwear for variety.

Easy, any model I missed out on the first time around! ;)
Seriously, I'd love to see a sprint version of the Massad Ayoob, Renegade, Executive or Flat Iron Folder,

Maybe I am the odd man out, but I would love to see a Goddard. Preferably FFG, keep the micarta. Tip up would be nice as well.

You Sir!!! you and I both need to sit down and have a serious high quality cup of coffee and discuss this even further  Not only did you read my mind on the C-60 Ayoob to be resurrected but you've sort of stole my thunder in a very good way I might add :) I would go with XHP for the Spyderedged Ayoob and the plain edged Ayoob in either Cruwear or M390. But you are most definitely in the ball park and on the same page to be sure

Yeah the C-60 Ayoob and C-54 Calypso in a supersteel blade is truly what this community DESERVES!!

Tvenuto? K & B? you all listed the "R" model along with the Slysz Bowie>> Both of you forgot to mention which blade steels you desire?

Also there seems to be a club forming for the C-22 Walker/Klotzli model in a Sprint Run  Would you all like it to be a collaboration with Klotzli again? Also which handle material and which blade steels?
