Spyderco FIXED Blade HAWKBILL Salt Knife: Who wants this?

#1

Post by SpyderEdgeForever »

This is to all of my fellow Hawkbill enthusiasts here: Would you be into Spyderco producing a fixed blade hawkbill in both plain edge and serrated edge, using H1 or Lc200N steel and either FRN or G10 as the handle material? I sure would! Say a fixed blade version of the Spyder Hawk and Tasman Salt.

ONly!! and I repeat ONLY!! if they also offer it in Spyderedge. Because to me a Hawkbill without a Spyderedge simply takes away at least 70% of it's functional ability. I've been petitioning for a fixed blade Hawkbill for years now but I've also gone on record on several occasions pointing out that any Hawkbill blade is severely limited in overall function by only being available in plain edge. I also remember on two occasions launching threads on this forum asking people what uses and what advantages they thought that plain edged Hawkbills had. Needless to say I got very few responses each time.

Just look at the sales of Spyderco's Hawkbill blades. Take the Harpy for instance>> I would be willing to bet that at least 90% of all the units sold are Spyderedged units. I truly believe that had they sold the Superhawk model in SE & PE both instead of just the PE units they made available that they would still be selling them.

I've owned and used several Spyderco Hawkbill folders over the years and it's getting very rare that on any occasion I ever use or carry any of the plain edged Hawkbills that I own. I'm to the point now that I rarely buy any model that I don't believe that I would have potential of actually using them.

A fixed blade Spyderco Hawkbill? You bet I would like one ( or more) but only if it's made available in SE.

So... basically, a small serrated sickle?

I know I've posted this before, but since I love the Aqua Salt handle... :p

isn't the Rock Salt kind of that? It sure chops above its edge length due to its shape

I wouldn't call it that. To me a SE sickle would be closer to this one (Whale Rescue Blade :o )

I dunno, I might if the handle were really good, only because that would serve me better than my Spyderhawk is for the job I use it for. Otherwise I'm fine with the Spyderhawk. I've tried three times now to carry a fixed blade and it just isn't for me.

I'd be in the for that. Definitely spyderhawk size or larger.
I need to rehandle my whale rescue. My old hickory handle isn't much of a looker.

The Rock Salt has an excellent geometry but it is a bit small and not as heavy as a chopper.

The blade length should be at least 10 '', with a thickness of ~ 0.3 ''.
