Lil' Native Compression v.s. Lockback

#1

Post by Mrdhavn »

I'm looking for the perfect EDC and the Lil Native seems pretty close. I own a PM2 Lefty and it's amazing but too large for EDC. Was waiting for a Lil Native sprint but as of now there is no ETA for one. I like the wire clip better but I wanted to try the lockback so I'm having a hard time deciding. So which knife is better? Is the compression lock good for leftys? Any replies are appreciated..
Thanks

I just got my first Lil' Native yesterday. Its the DLC S30V Compression Lock version. I do like it a lot. My only complaint is that I really wish it had jimping on the choil and spine. I do want to try the lockback version to compare and see which lock I prefer.

For EDC, depending on whether you are looking for smaller size or lighter weight, the Native LW might fit yours needs. It is the perfect EDC knife for summer in my opinion. It weighs the same as the Lil Native Comp Lock (both 2.4 oz), but gives you a bigger blade and handle. But not too big as the PM2 can feel like.

Bottom line, I don't think you will go wrong with either for EDC. Lil Native or Native LW. Whatever model ticks the most boxes on price, size, color, steel, clip, lock, jimping, scale material, etc. Of course, the natural solution is buy one of each and rotate! :)

Welcome to the forum!

There isn't a better knife here. IMO the lock back feels more natural on this small knife.

The Native LW is a good recommendation. Check out the Dragonfly too, which some prefer to the Lil Native. I prefer the Chaparral to both.

I prefer the lock back version despite my preference for the wire clip.

The compression lock version has been my edc since it was released last year. My favorite spyderco ever. But then again I'm a righty with small hands and a love of wire clips, g10, and Golden-made compression locks. I'm hoping they make some sprints or exclusives. The DLC version is my current edc

I do not have either knife but I favor the back lock always over the compression lock (though it is a good lock). It is fully ambidextrous and has a bias to close, which is important when carrying sharp objects in your pocket. It does not have to rely on a detent to keep it closed, rather on a stout spring. Also, it is easier to use a back lock under pressure or with gloves.

I have the LIl Native Compression Lock version. It is my daily office carry and is amazing. I used to carry a DF2 but prefer the Lil Native because it feels more stout, has little extra blade and has the comp lock, which is more fun to lay with. For office carry, I prefer blade lengths actually under 2.5” in case I have to visit a federal facility. The Lil Native fits the bill perfectly.
