Hey, based on the things you were talking about, maybe one of the Carribeans?

It is an in-house design, offered in aberrations, comp lock, it is a salt which is still very much a series going strong, it won't be around forever, and I truly believe that LC200N will be the next mainstay steel in the knifeworld(unless something even better is found).

Delica wharncliffe in v-toku2 would be awesome.

FYI, if you go to the birthday bourbon website, enter your birthday not your kid’s! It kicked me out to a “drink responsibly” website and figuring out how to get back in to read about their product made me want to drink...

I'd say that makes the 2018 Forum Knife the obvious choice.
Agreed.

Dated forum knife - it’s a no brainer.

100% forum knife. It's the only one that comes from the factory with the year your kid is born.

Sprints are all fine and dandy but how much patina will the blades on many of them have in 20 years, even with careful storage? I would think your kid would have more appreciation for something that still looks "new".

Ok these are very good points. Dated from the factory takes it. I’ll go this route.

I did something similar, bought the damasteel limited edition victorinox of the respective year for both of my kids.
So my vote goes to the forum knife I guess.

I would say get a pm2 , Manix , or something really iconic of a spyderco. And get it engraved and maybe put some custom scales on it. Also like BigGrove posted above be carefull what steel variant you take because patina and or rust is going to happen if you choose wrong. I got lucky with my Nirvana after keeping it in its pouch for a month patina was already starting to form but i got to clean it off just in time. Only the pocket clip still has specs on it so it looks like a dalmation  :D :o
