Re: V-TOKU 2 Love
Really enjoy your experiments Shawn Thanks!
Btw, I'm looking at adding the capability of reprofiling edges and grinding stock thinner. Any suggestions for a stone or belt sander? Lol :-)
At this point the leading Contender is a extra extra coarse DMT bench Stone.

I'm always down for people upgrade their skill set. I will say that I would not recommend buying a belt sander and slapping your knife on it. It's incredibly easy to ruin a knife, there are a lot of little details that have to be accounted for that only come from making a pile of goofy grinded and destroyed blades.
You can do it but I'd hate to see some goofed up spydies.
So practice on some blanks if that's the direction your going.
As for a stone, I really like the atoma 120 better then the DMT. More longevity and cuts a little faster.

Sounds like an unusual and painful method of getting patina on a knife!

Thanks for the recommendation Shawn. I Have a decade of custom metal fabrication under my belt with thousands of hours running various powered abrasive devices so I'm well versed in the pitfalls of errant material removal!Deadboxhero wrote: ↑Mon Jul 09, 2018 9:41 amThanks brother,Cycletroll wrote: ↑Mon Jul 09, 2018 8:13 amReally enjoy your experiments Shawn Thanks!

I have a Lansky, a Sharpmaker (with brown, fine, define, and CBN rods), a Wicked Edge Pro, as well as various other stones. Am now delving into an assortment of good bench stones.
I have a rudimentary sharpening proficiency but find that I want to explore the geometry benefits of thinner grinds and greatly appreciate the knowledge of those that have gone before me.

Shawn,
Nice regrind. I recall your own laminated line wasn’t that good, but after regrind it’s almost symmetrical. Do you think all the uneven laminate line can be fixed by regrind?
You can start offering it to all that raise issues on the other thread.

Yea that evened it out better at the tip.
Re: V-TOKU 2 Love
Thanks Shawn.
Bumping this up. The thread is quiet, is it because less love for V-Toku2 compared to HAP40 or Super Blue run?
Anyone has used more and can share experience?

Re: V-TOKU 2 Love
I have a modded VToku Endura (Janich inspired blade chop for legal carry reasons in my area) that Ive been using quite a bit, and I enjoy the steel for EDC stuff. It patinas easily (a plus for me), it touches back up with little effort, and it seems to have good edge stability. All are wins in my book. Edge retention hasn't been disappointing, but I haven't really put it through its paces yet...( I need to find some dirty cardboard and see the edge rolls or chips). Overall I like it enough to own 2 of them, and I trust it enough to take into the woods. Im gonna grab a Delica and DF when they are released.
Re: V-TOKU 2 Love
Thanks!
Since it’s said to be close to 52100, with Tungsten instead of Chromium carbides, anyone can compare the high sharpness it achieve and does it hold that level long?
I’m imagining this is as close to 52100 Seki made FRNs as it is.

Re: V-TOKU 2 Love
Any news on when the rest of this line is going to drop??
Re: V-TOKU 2 Love
I’ve really been enjoying mine but haven’t cut more than fruit with it yet. I’m planning on carrying mine exclusively for the next couple of weeks to get a better feel for the qualities but so far I’d agree with DBH, it gets very sharp but is not an aggressive sharpness. Instantly patina’d while cutting some strawberries. Love the blues and purples.
Re: V-TOKU 2 Love
Received my Vtoku Endura today. Cut my finger slightly like maybe five minutes later, trying to wipe clean the blade. Yes, it's sharp. :D
I like the color of the scales. Not sure how often this one will be carried though. I have a feeling it's gonna be more of a collectors item.
