Fine with the price of full Ti.

However, in the interest of a lower price point, a nested compression lock in G10 or CF has my attention.

Was never a fan of the original Chokwe, then I handled the Mini Chokwe prototype at BLADE and liked it. Looking forward to it making it's way into production.

I never really thought the Chokwe was anything special, but then I traded for one and it is pretty special.

It's big, super light, the Tai Chung quality is pretty amazing.

I guess the only thing I don't know is how it carries because I carry it in my back pack for travelling. It does excel at cutting food and light duty stuff.

I don't know how to express how highly I regard this knife.

It was probably borderline too expensive on the first release.

Donut - I have a friend who writes outdoor articles and teaches outdoor skills and he loves his Chokwe. Told him about the Mini when I ran into him at BLADE and he was excited about it.

I had a Chokwe when they were in production. Nice knife. I would be very interested a smaller version.
I vote for liner lock.

Prototype had a compression lock and wire pocketclip - which I like. Can't recall what the steel was, or it may of still been undecided.

I'm very interested in this, just don't listen to any crazy ideas like liner locks and such ;)

I've had my eye on this one for a while.

So, I'm working on a smaller Chokwe design. about 3.25" blade. I'm looking for suggestions. Clip type, lock (I'm leaning to Compression), handle material, color, steel?

sal
I apologize for being late to the party, but am delighted by this news!

Here are my suggestions, although I am just one of many opinions!
- Compression lock so it functions like a "mini fixed blade"
- A discrete clip. Perhaps wire?
- Handle - perhaps brown G10 to resemble the original, and allow for aftermarket scale-swapping
- Steel - Chokwes liked ease of field sharpening and didn't care about rust or discoloration. They told me my Spydercos took too long to sharpen. :)
- Overall affordability, so that a greater number of people will be tempted to appreciate this design!

Glad you're still around! I became a Spyderco fan after the Chokwe had come and gone. At some point I'd like to pick your brain about its inception and the history there :) :D :spyder:

This was one knife I always considered buying when it was out, but not sure why, I never did. I would be down for a new version.

Hi Clovisc,

Welcome to the party.

FYI Clovisc was the person that sent the original Chokwe to me while he was in the Peace Corp in Zambia a bazillion years ago. He was one of my testers for the original H1 models. He was also one of my testers for the original LC Caribbean models.

The new version ha a compression lock. Also has a wire clip. The handle is carbon fiber to keep it light. Once the model is out, if received well, variations are possible.

Do we know the steel yet? I would love to see LC200N, it has been a dream to keep razor sharp. Caribbean has become my top knife hands down, kudos to you and the team for that fantastic tool.

Hi Sumdumguy,

Thanx for the kind words. We're still making steel selections.

Hi Ric,

No plans to make it a flipper.
