That girl is irresistable. But I would be more comfortable if I had a safe word.

St. Arnold is a Houston brewery that does not take itself too seriously.
They've staked claim to being the oldest craft brewery in Texas. 1994!
I do like their cheerful marketing approach and colorful labels.
The Summer Pils is one of their seasonal beers.

It was July 642 and very hot when the parishioners of Metz went to Remiremont to recover the remains of their former bishop. They had little to drink and the terrain was inhospitable.

At the point when the exhausted procession was about to leave Champigneulles, one of the parishioners, Duc Notto, prayed “By his powerful intercession the Blessed Arnold will bring us what we lack.” Immediately the small remnant of beer at the bottom of a pot multiplied in such amounts that the pilgrims thirst was quenched and they had enough to enjoy the next evening when they arrived in Metz.

Happy Independence Day eve. I've not gotten behind on my beer sampling.
But I have gotten behind on my posting.

Recently, I received a care package from the Beer of the Month Club.
My daughter lives far away and uses the club for gifts to me;
father's day, birthday, Tuesday. You get the idea.
They also have clubs for cheese, wine, chocolate, cigars and flowers.

She mixes it up with rare beers, micro-brewed beers and so forth.
This rotation it's Hop-Heads.

First up is Wild Ride Brewing in Redmond, Oregon, with their Hopperhead IPA.
"A well-known serpent amongst IPAs, Hopperhead IPA gives hop lovers the bitter bite one expects to experience with this style of beer. Hops are added throughout the brewing process in both the boil and the fermenter to create a pungent,enjoyable flavor and aroma. Caution: After experiencing the bitter bite and the infectious hop profile from this beer, victims often will request another!"

On this holiday marking the creation of our nation, you may notice some people wearing medals or baseball hats like the one pictured below. The Veterans Administration encourages veterans to wear their medals on Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Independence Day.

Though I never served in combat or in Vietnam, I am proud to be among the millions of Americans who served our country during the Vietnam Era. There are fewer and fewer members of the Greatest Generation WWII, Korea and now the Vietnam Era every year. If you spot an old geezer with a medal or hat, take a moment to thank him or raise a beer.

Finally, their enemies call them crusaders. To the fine men and women who served and are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, you are our heros. Decades from now, when you have your grandchildren on your knee, tell them when you were your best, when you were crusaders.

In my tireless pursuit of bottles to open, behold the Beer Cave at Hummel's General Store.
Customers can walk into the beer cooler to make their selection.
It's also a great place to chill down after the hot drive to Galveston Island.

Did you ever wonder what the "33" on the Rolling Rock bottle stood for? According to the Rolling Rock website there are a number of theories, but they do not provide the answer. https://www.rollingrock.com/history.html

So, what's up with the horsehead logo? One of the theories about the "33" is that a founder of the company bet on a horse who's number was 33 and used the proceeds to start the brewery.

Karbach Brewery is in downtown Houston. This bottle was left behind by a houseguest.
