This makes me very happy. Everyone keeps on hounding for a steel upgrade. The man has already spoken. Edge retention is something I would gladly give up for easy "in the field touch ups using a rod or hone" when field dressing. For example, most fishing guides prefer softer steels when cleaning multiple fish for its ease of sharpening during use. The game ranch my family owns has some VERY experienced guides who field dress all the animals taken. They all use small Case folders and touch up as they go on a small stone left at the cleaning station. I have never seen anyone process a big deer, hog, blackbuck, aoudad, or even buffalo faster than these fellas. Imagine cleaning 6 whitetails a day with S90V after guiding, cleaning, cooking, and getting ready to do it all again at 430am the next morning. Sharpening that knife is the last thing you want to do after that kind of day. Lets leave it be and hope for a quick release.

I'm so excited for this release. Loving my recently acquired South Fork, and so really want to try another of Phil's designs! Although to be honest, it could wait a few months for cashflow reasons...

I will buy pretty much anything Phil collaborates on. Though I hope for grinds similar to his customs, I think even a production piece like the Southfork and Sprig will continue to sell well.

I'm curious if it will get upgraded to BD1N?

This is genius. Better steel than 8cr while still a lower-cost option.

I'm also curious. Drop point? Trailing point?

It would be great to have a timeline on this one. I love the idea of a budget friendly Spyderco x Phil Wilson.

As mentioned in RamZar's post yesterday, plus a likeness and price. Tentative blade thickness: .12".

I'm a bit more partial to the spine on this version, but thats a minor point. :)

I don't mind the trailing point so badly because the edge has continuous belly.

Agreed. This is a definite buy for me. At that price (assuming BHQ is correct), I will probably pick up multiple as well.

I also want to give Spyderco props on their 8CR13MOV. I don’t know if it’s their heat treat or what, but I love it compared to other manufacturers that I’ve used.
