I second this^^^^^^^^^^ In addition, I would say getting a Kahr arms Delica in the dark blue or black would be good. You would have to crank out the cash but an $80-85 blade with stonewashed hardware, VG-10, and a Chicago legal 2.5 inch blade, seems to fit your bill quite well, other than the price. Something to think about.

I was at my local knife shop recently when an older gentleman came in asking about Opinel. He bought a few of them. He asked me what I thought of them and I said I loved them for the price but they're a little bland. Then he pulled one out of his pocket...the handle had been carved and polished into the shape of an Easter Island head. It was amazing. He said he carves the handles into all sorts of things. You can make a pretty unique knife from an Opinel.

:D Edit: Ha! I just saw Spydergirl's post and realized this thread is 2 years old. If the OP is still looking for a knife then feel free to read, otherwise everything below is irrelevant :D .

Spin with blue nishijin is my vote. Super classy, VG10 wharnie style blade, extremely versatile, great ergos, super light, and can easily be found for under $60. This little knife is with me everywhere I go. I'm not sure why it doesn't have a bigger following.

The blue nishijin cricket would also be a solid choice, but I have no personal experience with it. Dealers are trying to thin their stock, so I've seen them on sale for $80.

Someone else mentioned it, and this is my top recommendation if you don't go for the Spin. Urban LW, which you can get in K390. The price ($65) is amazing for that steel and it's just a great looking knife. I think the blade is sub 2.5, or darn close enough that no one will look at it and think otherwise. It's a must buy IMHO.

Maybe I'm just stating the obvious, but wouldn't the Chicago be the best knife to carry in Chicago? I love mine. The BD-1 steel sharpens easily to a razor sharp edge. It's small without being too small, and the G10 scales keep it classy. I got mine from National Knives for $45.00.

Besides the Squeak, I think it's the best gentlemans knife Spyderco makes. An argument could be made for the Urban, especially the K390 version, but as humid as it gets there, I'd worry about it rusting.
