How are you liking the Buck 110? It's a nice size and weight for using.

well I'm guessing your weight limit for folders won't give the 110 much of a chance, nor will the nail nick, rusty brass bolsters etc. :p but it's a good knife. The 110 has many advantages that hone it closer to what you and I both seek on a folder. :o

I wouldn't have bought it myself, it was a gift and truly surprised me, it is G10 scales, S30V, and hefty.

Image

Confidence inspiring construction, to say the least, and my first S30V (which I've managed to chip already... ) knife. Sharp and pointy, the brass reveals that some pretty things ain't made for me :( , and this is after cleaning it daily

Image

I carry it on the sheath, aways from the body, sweat and humidity.
It is a perfect compliment to a hawkbill, different shapes for very different tasks (belly, sharp thin point, S30V for better edge holding that 8Cr13MoV, etc.)

I like it but if I had to pay for a 110, I'd have bought the Lightweight or the Smoke Jumper

The lightweights have been tempting me. They also have a version with micarta scales, a clip and thumbstud coming out soon. One of those may end up in my collection. I think the 110 was surpassed a few decades ago by the plastic handled, mid positioned lockbacks Spyderco popularized, but I'll always appreciate the design of the 110. If they move the lock release forward to facilitate one handed closing I'd seriously consider EDCing the new micarta version.

The lightweight smoke jumpers with cpm 154 are very nice but it seems blade play is inherent.

How bad? My PE Pacific Salt has play in every direction but the lock is solid so I can live with it. (To be fair to the Salt it's been a beater for a decade, it didn't come with play).

Another that the blade movement is not only felt but visible. I'd say the tip of the fairly long blade can be moved 1/8 inch from one extreme to the other. I don't fear the lock releasing but it would be an unacceptable amount of play in a knife twice the price but at 37.99 for cpm154 I can accept it.

I could probably send both of mine to buck to fix but not worth it yet.

I believe there is also a S35VN Lightweight exclusive to DLT Trading (who are planning on three more exclusive Lightweights for this year) so that also makes it more appealing all together

Today, not the most expensive, not the flashiest, but the Byrd again goes to the pocket as main carry knife :o

Yep I'm loving it so far but admit I haven't worked it very hard. This one and the rex45 stay pretty clean. My understanding is the 52100 is fun to sharpen so I do look forward to that.
