I need advice on the purchace of my first Syderco.

I would really like to buy my first Spyderco folding knife that has a removable clip. I am looking for an everyday knife to clip to my pocket. I think I want to start out with a plain edge blade, but will probably make my second purchase a serrated. I am not sure about the different grades of steel Ive been reading about, but I want something that is going to last and hold up over time. I haven't decided on a handle material at this time. I am looking to pay any where from $40-$100. I would also be interested in any on-line dealers you might know about that have good deals and are reliable. I have seen some low prices on the web, but I'm a little skeptical. I would appreciate any input at all. Thanks a lot for your time.

Welcome to the forum! Well first of all, seeing that this knife to be a daily carry, I don't think that you can go wrong with any of the lightweight clipits with the Zytel handles like the Delica or its bigger brother, the Endura.

Personally though, I started my Spyderco collection with the Wegner Jr which I think fits into your budget. It has an ATS34 blade (really keeps it edge very well and pretty easy to sharpen in my experience), G10 scales (nice and grippy) with a removable clip. I tried it without the clip and I found that the knife wasn't as easy to open! All clips stay now!!!

I'm sure that most Spydercos will meet all your expectations though and good luck with your hunting.

That's the exact same advice I give people. I tried to carry the smaller models for years until I realized that you need to match hand size to handle.

Sounds like ya need a plain edge Delica for now, and then a serrated Endura later. Use them for awhile, and upgrade in a few months.

Try a Calypso Jr. Lightweight, you will end up with light, easy to open razor that doesn't look "scary" when you pull it out amongst regular non-knife type people (sheeple). My .02.

I agree with Brian. I have owned a Calypso Jr Lightweight for some months now and I am very pleased by it. The super VG-10 steel holds the edge of the flatgrounded blade and is easy to sharpen (razorsharp !!)The scales made out of Zytel are lightweight yet tough and the clip is removable and interchangable. In fact, the whole knife is very lightweight and will not "obliterate" your pockets <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>. It fits perfectly in my (normal sized) hand.

Matt - Welcome to the Spyderco forum. I think you will get only good advice here. Many of the posters here are VERY knowledgable about our products. The Delica,Calypso jr & Native all have approximately the same length blade, but handle differently. We do this because of the many variations in hands.

Thanks to all of you for your input. I really appreciate your friendly informative responses. I think now I'm just going to go to a local store and try a few of the models you have suggested and see which one feels right. Can anyone tell me the main differences between the zytel handles and the G-10. The G-10 seems very popular. I like the look of the stainless handles, but is the weight a big drawback.
