Hey Sal !!!

Hi Sal,

My name is Rich and we talked at the East Coast custom knife show a few weeks ago about a possible rep position. We also talked about design possiblities. I am currently attempting to make knives on my own but my talent lies more in design as I have a Commercial Art and Illustration background. Especially since the equipment for knife making costs an arm and a leg and I'm doing most of it by hand right now. Anyhow, I am doing as you asked, logging onto the forums here and inquiring about the "outside design team" you said you might be looking for. Let me know at your earliest convenience. If an employee of Spyderco answers these e-mails then please forward this to Mr. Glesser. Thank you very much and take care.

Sincerely,

Richard Derespina

I'm suprised that Spyderco needs an outside design team considering that they already have more great designs than they can afford to produce. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of concepts did you guys discuss?

Hi Carlos,
Well, we did'nt discuss any particular conceps of design. Just that I had the opportunity to talk and ask Sal about it and he mentioned he may be looking for an outside design group. Kinda sounded like the average daily knife users ideas on knives type of thing. Thoughthey do have a fine design team and have a good idea of what we need. I just want to work for them that's reall it. Take care.....RDT

Hi Richard. Carlos, I must confess, there is more to this forum in plan.

I had hoped that over the course of time, communicating with like interested minds on the Tekno forum, I could develop an outside "team" for opinion, design ideas, materials and eventually testing prototypes.

The idea came up a while ago while on the Bladeforums forum, but it would be far easier to do this on our own turf. It is still some time away, but that's why I do this forum myself.

Hi Sal,

An interesting concept. We need more techno-junkies to find this forum.

I was wondering whether this forum was just for materials, or for design, and other other concepts as well. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Do you think you could enable the forum software for html code (links and scans)? It would definitely be an aid to future deiscussions that go beyond materials and into design.

Hi Carlos. That will be necessary. At this time, I'm just seeing how many interested parties there are. Especially people that have a more long term interest in knives.

The real advantage will be in testing prototypes.

I don't want to solicit for people, just see who hangs out based on mututal interests.

Sal,

I was there with Rich at the show. I think this a great idea. Everyday people means real opinions. Your own ELU.
