Actually, the Native was originally designed for Wal-Mart, many years ago. Camillus was going to make the knife, but the deal didn't happen. Hence the BRK 1st generation model. The model has gone through 4 steels and a number of variations and has now gone full circle.

The Wal-Mart deal has been in process for many months. They are testing one model in about a third of their stores. They are only carrying the Native in plain edge, S30V. I couldn't say anything here because Kelly wanted to inform our dealers first. She sent out letters last week. Very high integrity lady.

The Native suffered the same "situation" as the Caly jr. The large dealers don't want to stock more than "one plastic handled Spyderco of the same size". The Delica has always been our best seller (3" blade) so the 3" Native and 3" Caly jr. never got a shot at the "big market".

The specialty knife shops, like Country Knives, carry all of the models, for which we are grateful, but their are few of those type shops.

The original plan was for byrds, but Wal-Mart wanted a USA made high quality folder. They are difficult to work with, because of all of the details, but they are extremely professional.

Hopefully the Native will do well in the "big Market".

The Endura hovers between very high medium and low heavy duty. These are pressure tests, not impact tests. All of our knives are spine tapped a number of times during the manufacturing process, but they are not destructive taps, enough to test the fit and geometry. They are again tested in QC.

The Endura 4 with full, but nested steel liners are well into the heavy duty range. We'll have more consistent testing done when they are in production.

That's one of the main reasons I had to put myself on a budget, concerning knives.

I'm still out of a job, so I have to get by on considerable less money than I've been used to.

I don't think it's right to deprive my son of "fun things" when he's staying with me and continue buying knives.

I will buy a knife every now and then, but not every week anymore which I did in the past.

The knives are finished except for sharpening, engraving and sheaths. I'd guess another few weeks.

We ended up with about 480 of them.

We haven't done pricing yet.

It sounds like the edge on the "old Case" was gone. More in need of a regrind than a sharpening.

'Stay on the corner of the gray/brown stones until it will catch your fingernail. It is actually a reprofiling. Done more easily with a belt, or our diamonds, but still possible with the medium grit gray/brown stones.

The jigged bone was a nice piece and will serve for many years. Nothing lasts forever.

I've seen a pic of Deacon's dino-bone piece. My wife, Gail, has a dino-bone Kiwi. Santa Fe Stoneworks does some nice pieces as well. It's a fairly unique design. Ultimately it's you that drives the product line.

Hi Joe,

1. The black Cara Cara and Meadowlark were requested by the Military and they wanted clampacks. we're struggling with the decisions and methods to provide both.

2. The coating info is at the office, I'll chase it down for you next week.

3. The Stainless Robin and Finch are scheduled to begin shipping in December.

4. FRN Starling and FRN Finch will appear first, probably a couple of months. They are the very small versions (Ladybug size). We are still 6 months away from the FRN Cara Cara and Meadowlark.
