I just wanted to get some feedback on 2 problems I have with the Sharpmaker 204.
1. While it works great on cromium rich steels like my SAK,it takes FOREVER to rebevel ATS-34. Forever and then some! I heard Spydie used to sell diamond sleeves but there were issues with them. Will they ever be re-released?
2. My **** tips keep getting rounded. Be sides keeping the tip up and not slipping off the ceramic, are there any other tips?
Thanks,
Brent...

Brent,
I'll have a go at answering your queries.
1. Yes it does take a long time to rebevel good steels. Sal has said that they are working on replacements for the diamond sleeves but they are not available yet. Joe Talmadge's solution is to lay a diamond stone against the ceramic rod so that the angle remains consistent.
2. To avoid rounding the tip you have to prevent it slipping off the stone. I stop within a few millimetres of the point when I'm using the corners of the rods and then sharpen the point by sliding it down the face without it leaving the stone.
Take care,
Clay
Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow, in Australia it's tomorrow already.
