Question and wish for Sal

#1

Post by lshay »

At gun/knife shows I've watched dealers wipe knives that have been handled with a piece of chamois. So, I bought some at the hardware store just for wiping down my Spydies after a days carry when its only been opened and closed a few times. I do not use it for deep cleaning, but it seems to work really well (no lint or smears). Is this a good idea or could this hurt my babies in the long run?

Now for my wish: Better boxes for large Spydies! The boxes for my Wegner/Military/Starmate/Calypso all seemed to be too small for the knives they held. Because of this the boxes were all torn out at the ends when the knives were brand new.

Everything else Spyderco does is pretty nearly perfect, from quality, to value, to customer service (SFO Rocks!), but the boxes the larger folders come in are really a weak link.

You do not need to go as far as MT, but $150 to $200 retail knives deserve better.

Just my 2 cents

Hi Ishay. Chamois are great for exactly what you are doing with them.

Regarding the boxes; are you referring to the blue & white "slider" boxes?

Yes, the blue and white 'slider' boxes. Everyone that has come with a large Spyderco (Starmate/Wegner/Military/Shabaria) has been ripped out at the ends when I got it. In fact I ordered 2 of the Civilian style pouches from SFO today just for storage. Will order more soon, but at $16.95 two more will cut into my Lum $$ :O

Thanks for listening!

Civillian-styled pouches? Oh, please! Could some one send in a scan? How does it look like? This is a great asset for my spydies!

Samo:

Don't have mine yet. I think they are the same pouches that come with Civilians, just extras. Can't scan when I get one as do not have a scanner, why waste knife $$ on silly electronic devices

Samo,
The pouches are the zippered "half moon" with the Spyderco trademark on them. Nice lining to protect your Spydies. WELL WORTH the $16.95.
Can't scan mine for now, sorry.
