Re: Nitrogen-Alloyed Knife Steels

I’m not familiar with those. Can you provide a link? http://www.sanyo-steel.co.jp/english/product/special_steel/images/pdf/metallic_powder2017.pdf I've tried to search some other information on the SPC X series, but Sanyo, like all the japanese steel manufacturers doesn't say so much about their &q...

Re: Nitrogen-Alloyed Knife Steels

Sanyo has a series of Nitrogen-alloyed superhigh speed steels and Hitachi has some Nitride-based sintered ultrahard materials.
Of course also Bohler-Uddeholm N-steels are intriguing.
It would be interesting to try them :)

I cannot say that a steel is better than another.
I love them because they are so much!

Re: Cheap Knives question.

it is not the price that counts, but the relationship between this and the quality. For about 3 dollars this knife beats practically every knife over 100 dollars on the market, because as it may be a practical sh!t he will never be able to cut 33.3 times less , and the more the price increases the m...

The Rock Salt has an excellent geometry but it is a bit small and not as heavy as a chopper.

The blade length should be at least 10 '', with a thickness of ~ 0.3 ''.

Re: What's your opinion on customizing your knives?

I regrind by myself all my knives up to a zero ffg.
The only ones I obviously do not dare touch are my Higo and Hizen.
I also apply a high grit on all the blades that i use, except on high V steels and on my rockys.
Sometimes i (re)build their handles with Ipé wood.

Re: Cost Cutting on High End Models, Why?

I don't consider anything under $500 high end. Sometimes also +$500 things are not high end but only a bunch of crap. G.Sakai is selling the Ultimate Hunter, a not so big fixed blade made in collaboration with Kitano Katsumi. It consists of 67 hrc Zdp189 Katakiriba asymmetrical edge blade, with mir...

Re: The future is now: Ceramic Knives!

An enormous number of steels that Spyderco use acts like ceramic. D2 begins to have some ceramic characteristics, but things like Maxamet, that is used to replace cemented carbides practically have almost the same toughness of modern Cermets while having the half of the wear resistance. But you have...

Re: Poll: DLC or Uncoated?

It depends on what DLC. I hate the opaque black thing that some people apply on knives and that scratch after two minutes, but i love the TiN or the DLC that Rockstead use, practically scratch proof and mirror polished. Hitachi have some supercoatings, and i hope that we can see them not only on +$2...
