Re: Let's get some SRS-15 steel on some FRN This Year!

I've used some MBS-26 on a Masahiro gyoto, it was 'ight, nothin' crazy, reminded me of something in between aus 8 and vg10, Balanced and affordable but not mind blowing, nothing that would tip the scales in favor over other designs unless the price was good but I'd still rather have vg-10. Super blu...

Let's get some SRS-15 steel on some FRN This Year!

The Japanese have lots of unique high performance steels that we simply do not have any access to on folders with Spyderco's Japanese sprint run I have been using an 240mm Akifusa PM Migaki in the kitchen since christmas, Its a fricken laser. Very thin blade. It has a laminated piece of SRS-15 stain...

Re: Mantra Bearing Race

Does it need those flimsy washers?

There aren't any washers in my other bearing flipper knives

Re: Mantra Bearing Race

What's the update on this? I'm looking at getting a Mantra. Has the issue been solved Seems these stainless washers are the problem All the reviews I've watched complain about the action. Does it need stainless washers? I have a zt 0450 and a Bm 765 They do not have washers and the bearings work jus...

Re: Exotic Japanese steels

I guess when I compare the two steels I am only comparing 3 things. 1. Ease of sharpening. 2. Ability to take a very high level of sharpness. 3. Edge retention. I find the two steels are fairly similar in 1 & 2 and that hap40 has a distinct advantage at 3. I guess my question is, given the adva...

Re: Exotic Japanese steels

Hi DBH, Welcome and let's see which one Sal decides. I'm still thinking why not a special run of VG10 at it's max hardness, with cladding if needed. I might be in the minority though. :o Sup Chris :) Haha Vg10? Come on! :) at least make it Cobalt Special Steel it already has a higher working hardne...

Re: M4 vs. 52100 - Calling all metallurgical experts!

Not even in the same class. It's like comparing a muscle car to an Indy car While they are both technically "tool steels" and have four wheels ;) 52100 ball bearing steel is barely above just being a simple carbon steel 1% carbon bout 1% chromium No other carbides M4 is a PM high speed ste...

Re: Exotic Japanese steels

Ah, this is where the exotic steel is chosen! on the spyderco forum :) I must say, not a fan of the hap72, or the xcv11 I feel that the beauty of these exotic steels is the high amounts of edge holding relative to ease of sharpening if we are looking for steels with raw wear resistant power America ...
