Re: Manix XL Abuse

I was hammering through pvc and wood today. I think if your just tapping the spine of the blade it’ll be ok. I tend to use my knives like they are other tools for some reason. Need to drill a hole? I use my knife. Need to cut plastic pipe in half ? Use my knife. Need to trace a line to cut? Use my k...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Its size does shrink overtime. I was sitting in my Laz-boy here and it was unknowingly still clipped in my pocket after getting over worked today https://preview.ibb.co/f4QxsA/E12-A8-AD8-71-DC-4-F31-A3-B6-E37470-AC741-A.jpg https://preview.ibb.co/dYbgKq/4193-A977-9-D39-444-F-A59-E-9-FECFDC0-DDAF.jpg...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Spyderco Military, in my favorite steel of course! This is a do all knife right here! You can cut 400 feet of cardboard and it still shaves after doing it, not to mention it’ll never rust either. I’m thinking this particular run might be closer to the 64 HRC hardness based solely on its outstanding ...

Re: Sharpening tips

That looks great! This is what I strive for in my edges. I’m so OCD about it lol. I don’t think I could ever free hand, one mistake and I’d be starting all over again. It looks like my edge is getting similar to that one. ^ is that factory? Ah, hahaha! We wouldn’t be here if we weren’t OCD. :) That...

Re: Sharpening tips

I use a Wicked edge for all of my sharpening, and it’s easy to round a tip. Even with a guided system, you can mess a edge up or the tip. It’s very tricky sharpening and allowing the stones to glide off the edge. But they must go perfectly straight while leaving the tip. Even the slightest rubbing w...

Re: Sharpening tips

How do you guys and gals normally sharpen tips? Do you do it last? Or first? Good question! :) I just sharpen heel to tip and tip to heel in one fluid motion when I’m finishing a bevel. I think the “trick” may be to not let the stone roll or override the tip and I could probably show you better tha...

Sharpening tips

How do you guys and gals normally sharpen tips? Do you do it last? Or first? It seems as if it is a whole different sharpening skill I think, I’ve finally gotten close to a factory tip, I think anyways. How’s this look? I’ve noticed several times it doesn’t get very pointy feeling. But after working...

Re: Manix XL Abuse

I will say, be careful if you're going to baton or hammer a locked folder through wood. The only Spyderco folder I broke, well....that's how I managed to do it. :o 100% my fault. That's why I put the "Don't try this at home" disclaimer in my video. Did my Manix hold up just fine? Sure. Bu...

Re: Manix XL Abuse

that Is similar abuse that I subject my PM2 with. It amazes me how these knives manage to still hold a center blade, and a solid lockup with no play. I do not know how it’s possible. My Military apparently didn’t have enough threadlock and would become uncentered after just a few flicks, and loose t...

Re: Wearing blades out

Here is this thing I saw on ebay once lol not mine just had to share If you sharpen with stones it would take quite a while to wear one down but if you use a grinder it will not take too long 2018-08-24.png That is a true beauty! You sir, are an incredible free hand sharpener. I only wish my bevels...

Re: Ukpk BD1N at KC

Arrived. Sure enough it’s the real deal, BD1N. I ordered the leaf shape and added a note about the steel in the comments section and all went well. Can’t wait for recycling day. Give me some cardboard boxes to try this out on. You should get it razor sharp, and cut cardboard in strips. See how far ...

Re: 2nd hand favorite source

I like looking at these, some are priced way too high but if they don't sell the price will drop down sometimes. https://www.arizonacustomknives.com/index.php/knives-by-maker/spyderco.html I really like there website. The knives are used, but have very high quality photos, that show wear, character...

Re: Manix XL Abuse

I know steep angles are amazing. But, I actually tamed my Military down some. I want it’s edge to be kinda durable, I was doing some chopping today. So 17.5 DPS should be a lot tougher I think. I dunno I think that thin edge looks kinda cool too. https://preview.ibb.co/jXpYc0/A6-E7-CBDB-F836-468-F-A...

Re: Manix XL Abuse

Man, I want the Manix 2 xl. I remember when I was buying up all the s110v g10 models to have the full set, I was bummed when I found out they didn't/don't make the M2 XL in the series. I'll have to get it eventually to compare to the Military and Police 4. But with the XL Caribbean in the works... ...

Re: What is your bevel angle set at?

S110V will hold steep angles like what vivi runs on his vg10, and S30v blades. But, I’ve noticed anymore than about 14dps contacting just a little metal on accident with s110v will chip with a microbevel or not.

S30V is way tougher than my S110V. You won’t catch me stabbing cans! Haha, it’ll look like a spydie edge afterwards.

Re: Manix XL Abuse

Great video Vivi! This just goes to show, a knife stays razor sharp a lot longer than “the first few cuts haha” Here’s my excuse to try out S30V! I love this all blacked out. I have never used S30V, I didn’t think it was the steel to chip either. https://image.ibb.co/gb5sn0/D997-AA64-95-FE-46-E3-B8-...

Re: 2nd hand favorite source

So, I think if your buying Sprint runs on eBay, or unique spyderco models where a fake doesn’t exist, you’d probably be ok. I would avoid anything that’s black or digi cam, and has S30V on it “ avoid these on eBay only” lol There have been fakes of sprint runs too. Less common but not non-existent....

Re: 2nd hand favorite source

I bought my last Spyderco on eBay. Getting a good one is entirely up to you I think. Besides sometimes people just lying as to what your getting. My Spyderco Military Blurple was only $149.00 shipped. And it was in perfect brand new condition, although it was listed as “used and handled indoors only...

Sal,
I'm curious, does everything sell out or is there anything left over?
Sal posted earlier about this. All knives left over, are used in the next years “Factory Second Sale”
