Re: Suggestions for a new spydie !

The knives I use use most often at work are the Lil' Native, Para 3, and PM2... but I don't need them that often. Usually just for opening a few boxes, cutting through shrinkwrap, etc. If I was using them often for any extensive amount of time I'd probably opt for the PM2 or Manix mainly for the fac...

Re: Chipped edge. Defective steel/blade?

I would bet the blade is fine. Often times you'll see a performance increase over the factory edge after a couple sharpenings, especially with something like s30v. I'd send it to someone to have it reprofiled, after that the only thing it should need is to be touched up on a Sharpmaker every once in...

Re: Flicking Spydies with the index finger

Just tried using my index finger with my PM2 and Domino, it's easier than I expected but I have to hold it so awkwardly I don't see the point.

Re: What is your bevel angle set at?

I usually aim for 20 dps. I'd go lower, but I like a polished edge and I think a super wide polished bevel just looks bad.

Re: Pivot issues

If you use 242 make sure you clean all the threads really good with isopropyl or acetone. You'll get a really strong bond that way. 243 is a little more oil resistant but it works better if you clean the threads beforehand too.

What model is this?

The listing says it's a C101 Domino, but I've never heard of such a thing and when I google Spyderco C101 it comes up as a Manix 2.

Re: Fake Manix 2 lightweight? ( Grey / s30v conbo?)

Seller says he swapped out the Maxamet blade, looks legit to me. I don't know of any Manix 2 LW fakes out there currently. I see this on ebay quite a bit, someone will buy two knives, and swap the scales around then sell the other one. I almost bought a s30v PM2 with Blurple scales the other week.

I forget which one exactly, but it was either a PM2 or a Manix 2

Yeah, diamond cuts fast and works great on any hard steels or high carbide steels like M4, s90v, s110v, etc.

Re: Taxes on online knife purchase

Didn't the government already collect tax on the materials used to make the knife? I don't think we should be taxed on any goods from a retailer for stuff that tax was already collected on. Yeah there's a tax on everything it seems. I'm sure the retailer reports it as income, so they pay taxes on t...

Re: What should I buy to practice sharpening on?

That or any cheap 440C or 8cr13mov knife off of ebay. I think it's easier to learn on a softer metal than something even like s30v. I do love the Edge Pro for sharpening my Spyderco knives though. Some knives are a PITA to hold at a consistent angle without moving around especially smaller knives, b...

Re: What are your thoughts on Spyderco's Peel-ply Carbon Fiber?

I think my Domino is a great knife, except for the g10/cf laminate. I just prefer textured g10 like the PM2, regular cf, or even micarta. I've heard of people sanding the top layer off and polishing the g10 underneath though, maybe I'll try that.

Re: Ideal blade thickness for your EDC folder?

I feel like 3.5mm (Manix, PM2, etc) is just about perfect for my needs. Good balance of strength and weight. Some of these ridiculously large, overbuilt folders make me wonder if someone can't decide between a pry bar or a pocket knife, lol.

Re: Spyderco factory second warranty

Are you saying where the compression lock normally wedges itself in between the stop pin and the tang, its not touching the stop pin like it normally would? If so, how much of a gap is there? The only thing I can think of is that as it wears in and you start getting a later lockup that it may remedy...

Re: Stone washing a Spyderco pocket clip

1. Strip finish with sandpaper, if necessary 2. Place clip in small food-type container with smooth round pebbles, a small amount of water, and some dishwashing detergent 3. Secure top to container so that it is watertight (glue and tape help) 4. Wrap container in bath towel and secure with tape 5....
