Re: A question to Mr. Glesser about "the Maxamet situation"
I made knives in the 80's & 90's from m35, m42, and t42 parting tools in mid to high 60's hrc, stock removal, so can appreciate the difficulty working with this type of material, keeping in mind I didn't have to deal with HT. For 30 years I've longed for a folder with the same performance as my...

Fake Manix 2 LW... Do they exist?
There's a post on one of the FB groups of a blue lw that's missing the bug on the blade, and the logo on the circle on the scales... Still has tang markings. Blade shape looks off, as well, but the pics are not very good... Thought it might have been a regrind, but the missing logo in the scales has...

Re: New Para 3 Red or Blue Loctite?
Thanks for all your responses. Hello and welcome here, Which model is it? Does it have the full width lock ramp or the safety step ramp? Why do you want to take it apart? The lanyard tube is ... when removing the scales. I guess its a red version... I saw the thread on the para 3 defect here: //for...

I don't think DBH was being aggressive or confrontational... More likely "enthusiastic" to engage, and hear your thoughts/experience with the steel.
Idk if you've watched any of his videos, but he's one of the good guys!

Re: Para 3 Blade Play Question
I think the hold method may have been to drill a slip fit hole in a scrap of wood (in a drill press), and using that to hold squareness... (Not entirely confident in my recollection, at the moment)

Re: Para 3 Blade Play Question
Question: If you've tightened the pivot screws on a PM2 as tight as they'll go, and there is still a hint of side to side blade play, what can be done? Thicker washers? I've never done it, but you should be able to work the bushing pivot on some wet or dry to trim a few thou off the ends. (Be sure ...

If the rumored FRN model comes to fruition, I would love to see some slight contouring, a lá the Slycz Bowie.

Re: Very DISAPPOINTED w/ laminated steel sprint runs
I believe it's a requirement of the maker... Care to expand on the "requirement" bit ? Don't quite understand it. Doesn't Spyderco dictate what they want ? They can't stamp out the blanks of these steels unless they're laminated with a softer cladding, so we likely won't get unlaminated v...

Re: Very DISAPPOINTED w/ laminated steel sprint runs
How many people even want laminated blades? Honest question. They add extreme difficulty to manufacturing and QC no doubt. Is it worth it? I believe it's a requirement of the maker... Iirc, they blank via stamping, so they need the softer cladding to allow them to blank the knives. The maker of the...

Re: Very DISAPPOINTED w/ laminated steel sprint runs
People complaining about uneven lamination lines need to step back and do some research in two areas: 1. Steel production processes (particularly rolling mills, and the H.I.P. process. 2. Geometry (particularly full-flat grinds with a distal taper) Then come back here and explain your position that ...

Re: Why no DLC on more carbon steel knives?
Ionbond participated in a discussion a few years ago over on bf. The subject came up again a month or two ago, and rycen dug that conversation out. It's pretty informative... Basically they say that the DLC layer is "micro-porous", and is very good at holding anti-corrosion films/substance...
