Re: Caly 3 HAP40 dropped

PanChango
How did you go about smoothing the corners of the G10? I might want to do this with some of my knives, as the G10 texture can eat pockets. I assume you wore a dust mask, but what grits did you use?

Re: Native 5 FRN vs. Seki FRN vs Manix 2 FRCP

I have had knives with FRN or Zytel handles for more than 40 years with no obvious degradation. It is good stuff. Remington made their nylon model 66 rifle with a Zytel receiver. I don't have one, but they made lots of them and I am not aware of any problems with the 22 LR. FRN is tough, and lasts, ...

Re: Persian Sprint Run

I would actually like to see a bolstered smaller version of the Persian. I have the G10 Persian 75, and regret missing the nicer, earlier model.
I also have a preference for a stainless steel, and prefer something on the order of XHP, S30V, or S35V, but I suspect that ZDP would be a draw.

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral

I put the original CF Chaparral on the kitchen scale and it only weighed 2 3/8 oz without the clip. This is pretty light.

Re: Small Knives VS Large Knives

My perspective- folders are small knives, the size of paring knives. A big knife has a 9"-14" blade. I generally like a small, small knife, unless I am doing yard work. Then, I like a somewhat larger small knife with a 3 1/2-3 3/4" blade. I rarely want something larger in a folder. On...

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral

I wonder if there are any differences in the blade and handle shape from the original CF. is the sharpened edge length the same? A photo showing both would be greatly appreciated.

Re: The Forgotten Model? A Perfect EDC? Yeah The ROOKIE

I also prefer liners. If G10 were used, then double liners would make for a more rigid handle. With a CF handle, then a single liner might work.

Re: Catcherman Sprint

I hate to say it, but I would want a Catcherman in VG10. Japanese debas are often made in VG10, and it is very corrosion resistant, with decent edge holding at RC60. I have used the Stetch in the surf, with no problems. While the name is not exotic anymore, the steel has much better resistance to co...

Re: The Forgotten Model? A Perfect EDC? Yeah The ROOKIE

I would rather see S35V or XHP than VG10, and can agree with you there. There are some downsides to metal in a handle given the Rookie design. The knife handle is narrow, and this makes for very nice carry in the pocket. The downside of titanium would be that unless it is textured, one handed openin...

Re: The Forgotten Model? A Perfect EDC? Yeah The ROOKIE

I would like to see one with CF or CF laminate for the handle. This would be more rigid than a straight G10 and lighter. For EDC, I would prefer a stainless steel and am flexible: XHP, S35V, ZDP or even VG10 would be good. I actually like the saber grind and swedge, but would be happy with a full fl...

Re: VG-10 vs ZDP-189

The right answer depends on what you want to use the knife for. I picked up a Stretch 1 some time ago and wanted it for fishing and possible yard work. Neither application would suggest ZDP-189. VG10 is great for yard work and is fine for salt water, as long as it is rinsed after use. If all you wil...

Re: Real World BD1 experience?

I don't have a knife in this steel, but according to Carpenter, it should have wear resistance about like 440C. It should be a little below Vg10 in wear resistance, but not by much. This would depend on heat treatment, blade geometry, etc. In my experience, VG10 does better than 440C.

Re: Michael Walker C22 SPrint Run ZDP189 back from Tour of Duty in Tuscany !

This is one knife that is so nice I picked up two when they were available. The handle shape is almost identical to the Chaparral, but it is thinner. The blade is 4 mm shorter, but the cutting edge is longer. When I saw this thread, I swapped it out for the Chaparral that was in my pocket. It is lig...

I missed the initial run. I often carry the ZDP version, and hope this sprint appears soon on dealer shelves. How does everyone like the edge holding?

Re: Assist Rescue

Hi Sal: thanks for making the Assist. I got mine yesterday. I always have one of the older Rescue models in the driver's map pocket along with a LifeHammer. I'll add the new Rescue Assist to the mix. I always make sure to have an effective seat belt cutter in my cars. It can be difficult to get to m...

Re: Assist Rescue

I spoke to a service rep at my local Honda dealership and my cars don't have laminated side windows, just safety glass. I guess you can't have too many Spyderco Rescue knives. I recommend checking with the dealership for your late model car. It is hard to get this info online. It isn't just luxury c...

Re: Assist Rescue

There was a recent report in my local news of a Mom and baby who drowned when their car spun off the road and would up submerged in a pond. I ordered the Rescue Assist, but I am beginning to think that I might want to keep a small sledge or ball peen hammer in the map pocket. It sounds like my car w...

Do you remove the head before filleting? If so, the edge lasts forever on the Sprig.

I wonder if Spyderco tested the knife on tempered glass or on laminated glass as well. I hope someone from Spyderco responds.
