Re: Cpm s30v vs. Vg10
I like VG10 in situations where corrosion resistance is a major factor. It beats 154CM by far in this, and work that would lead to staining and corrosion with 154CM won’t do it to VG10 - like yard work. Theoretically, I prefer S30V to VG10, but I find that most of the knives that I carry use VG10. T...

Re: Stretch 1 / Stretch 2 - a little nostalgia and wouldn´t there be a place for both of them?
I have the Stretch 1 in VG10 FRN. I am not interested in the Stretch 2, but regret not getting the 1 in ZDP189. I hope that Spyderco considers a sprint run of the first Stretch in something like HAP40 laminate or ZDP.

Re: If you could resurrect one discontinued model what would it be?
I would second the recommendation for the Stretch 1 and for the Rookie. I would like to see a version of the Rookie in something like ZDP189.

Re: Need Suggestion on a VG10 KNife
The only large folder that I have in VG10 is a large Lum, but I don’t see them around anymore. I have seen older models of the police in VG10 and the Mike Draper. I am not generally a fan of metal handles, but these are pretty big.

Re: China and tariffs
I don't want to get into a political debate and won’t. If you remember your history, tariffs contributed to the Great Depression. They might have worked 50 years ago, but too much industry is now international, with manufacturing cutting across borders. Tarriffs make it difficult for companies like ...

Re: China and tariffs
Prices matter to me. When they run too high, I find myself holding back on a purchase. I am retired, but my income is sufficient to allow me to save each month, and put away money for an upcoming wedding in the family and outrageous medical bills. Funds are not unlimited. When prices start to get to...

Re: Do most of us need larger knives?
Large is relative. If carving a turkey, I can generally get by just fine with a 7” slicer, but a larger bird could require a 9” carving knife. I have never needed a larger carving knife than this, even though I own one. I like an 8” heavy bladed western deba for breaking down chickens. I generally l...

I would like to see a Rookie in CF, perhaps G10CF laminate. An upgrade to ZDP189 or a HAP40 laminated steel would be great.

Re: Sal asks you to design a Spyderco.
Some great designs here no doubt. I have all the folders I’m ever likely to need. The only knife that I haven’t been able to find is a true flexible Small Game Fixed Blade. Many years ago I had a Gerber Pixie and I literally did everything with it. It was perfect for dressing rabbits, taking fox ta...

I would like to see S35V or CPM154. If in a high carbon steel, I am a fan of M4.

How does CPM154 compare to S35V for a fishing and fillet knife? Is edge retention similar or better?

Re: Sharpening Spyderco on Water Stones
I have Shaptons, but normally reserve them for tool steel blades. I prefer natural novaculite for carbon steels, but not for high chromium steel. I recommend Spyderco ceramic bench stones for VG10 and kitchen knives. I don't go above the fine stone (~1200 grit) for most kitchen knives. If I want a f...

I also wonder how long the handle is with the knife closed. Is the handle slick or is there enough texture so the knife is easy to grip?

Re: Toughest stainless steel ?
Blade geometry and heat treatment matter a lot. I have a few Tojiro kitchen knives, including a western Deba and a Gyoto. The deba is like a thick, heavy chef's knife with a convex edge. The Gyoto has a thin blade. I use the Deba to slit lobster tails and break down raw chicken. It is used like a cl...

Re: Spyderco Ultra Fine 306uf (8 x 3) problem?
I have the 2X8 UF and it isn't flat either. This makes no difference for sharpening knives. I only use it for that purpose. It is not really good for plane irons or chisels, unless you plan to use the stone handheld on a large blade. I only use my Spyderco ceramic stones on knives, and they work gre...

Re: Caly 3 HAP40 dropped
The Chaparral is a great knife, but the handle is a little small. This makes it excellent in the pocket, but the Caly provides an optimal blade and handle size/shape. I have the CF Caly 3 in my pocket right now. I only wish the CF gave a bit more texture to hold on to. It is nearly perfect as is. I ...

Re: Caly 3 HAP40 dropped
I would like to see a sprint run of this knife in a steel like XHP or S35V and a G10-CF composite handle, like the Chaparral. That would be as close to perfection in an EDC as you can get.

Re: Caly 3 HAP40 dropped
Thanks. I like CF because it is pocket friendly, but I do have some G10 handles that could use some work. The Spyderco Worker has smooth, rounded corners. Not all G10 is treated this way.
