Re: Share your Edge| CPM S110v

I would say I use light pressure with the bonded diamonds. I'm not just letting the stone "float". Maybe I need just a little more pressure. We'll see what happens when I reprofile the Maxamet Native. I was amazed by how easy Maxamet is to cut with the Venev stones, if you aren't removing...

Re: Hard truths and observations

Here's my two cents, fwiw. Yes, you can get a knife with nearly the same high quality fit, finish and materials as a Spyderco for half the price. But would you rather have a Cadillac or a Kia? A Gibson Les Paul or a decent copy made in Taiwan? I like Spyderco because of the unique designs, the model...

Re: Guys who put lanyards on your knives, why?

Easier to get out of pocket, also a bright colored lanyard can make it easier to find if you drop it outside. I agree though, I think there's a lot of knives that would be better without a lanyard hole.

Re: School Me On Guided Sharpeners

My favorite abrasive for this system is the Venev bonded diamond, it's an excellent compromise of cutting speed, slow wear and price, plus there are available grits from extremely coarse to 1 micron. Same here, The bonded diamond stones are the best of both worlds, plus they cut through stuff like ...

This got me thinking that I need to dye my natural g-10 PM2 to red! Did you heat up your concoction like the directions indicate?
You need heat for the dye to permeate, vinegar also helps quite a bit.

Re: Sharpening choils - Why?

Especially with an edge pro a sharpening choil makes things easier and keeps the stone from digging in and making a recurve. I put a choil on my para 3, but on my PM2 I just decided to sharpen it all the way to the ricasso with a coarse diamond stone. It takes a little more time, but it looks a litt...

Re: Spyderco Maintenance Techniques

As far as loctite, clean the screw with isopropyl alcohol really good before you put the loctite on and you'll get a nice strong hold. Any oil or grease will weaken it, 243 is a little more oil resistant than 242 also.

Re: Knives you didn't expect to like so much, or vice versa

If I had to pick one probably the Southard. I never really planned on buying one but stumbled into a good deal on one and gave it a shot. Reminds me of the Domino a little bit, smooth action and super slicey blade.

Re: DYI Stonewash

It should work, I've stone washed a few blades just by putting them in a plastic container with water and busted up ceramic tiles. The ferric acid is effectively neutralized and rinsed away with cold water so it should be fine with any food prep. I usually toss it in a container with some baking sod...

Re: Detent tuning

I think that’s pretty cool. I assume you made the detent divot (or whatever it’s called) deeper. Any way to make a strong detent weaker? Yeah I'd be curious about that too. I know on frame locks you can just bend the lock bar out a little, some people do that with the Domino but it might be a littl...

Re: Grease or nano oil on bearings?

For my bearing knives I just run them dry, or so!e graphite oil, as it'll evaporate and won't collect any debris, but running them dry nothing can collect in there, not sure about spydercos bearings, but zt will replace them if something we're to go wrong with them so I don't worry at all about run...

what kind of micarta is this and how did you get this look? it’s pretty great
Thanks, they're black canvas micarta scales from RCBladeworks, you can find him on facebook. The blades are acid washed, then buffed with a maroon 3m pad, directionally with the original grind lines.

Re: Stone washing / re finishing

Hey all, Im having my first go at putting some of my own touches on a PM2. Im using a standard S30V satin version. Im trying to stone wash or such all the components. I tried the tumble drier method but I feel the drier throws the container too much and the stones dont do much tumbling (centrifigal...

Re: Blade-Play Issues: I want your knowledge, please.

I don't want any blade play on my folders, imo a folder should function like a fixed blade when locked in place. I've got a well worn PM2 that I picked up used, even with the wear and tear it has zero blade play. The only blade play I don't mind is in an OTF, even the best ones have a little side to...

Re: Paramilitary 2 question

Thanks a lot for your responses. I have Lucas Oil gun oil and clp. Would these be good for lubing knives? Either of those will work. Sometimes I'll just run my PM2 dry, take a pencil and put a decent amount of graphite around the pivot and all of the contact points on the compression lock. It stays...

Re: I wish spyderco offered deep carry clips

If it's for consealment purposes the best is no clip at all as it's pretty obvious that there is something like a knife connected to that clip hanging out of the pocket. True, but I don't feel comfortable with a folding knife floating around in my pocket at work, with a slim deep carry clip my Domi...
