Can you use the sharpmaker starting with the tip and pushing forward and down? I do that when I strop. I learned it from Derrick at KSF when I started using Barkies. It does work really well on a flat strop, but I'm not sure how well it would work with the SM rods in their angled slots. Maybe if yo...

As long as the pivot is adjustable, I prefer pinned scales to screws and I prefer washerless blades no more than 3" long with backlocks and black, G10 scales. In fact the top three Spyderco folders, IMAO, are 1) the Caly 3 G10 PE, 2) the PE Caly 3 G10, and 3) the G10 PE Caly 3. Too bad it's dis...

May just be my imagination, but... I carry and use both and the Sage 2 "feels" a good bit thinner to me, as well as actually being thinner. It may be the texture of the Ti handles as much as anything, but it does have a thinner feel when I'm holding and using it.

I've had a GB sand I currently have an FRN Stretch. I've also had several examples of Spyderco's ZDP189 in different knives. Between the two you mentioned, I'd take the Stretch. I never warmed up to the GB and sold or traded mine within a few weeks of getting it. The handle just didn't feel comforta...

I do not. I use a strop for touchups and I find that this is all I need to do with my Spydercos when I get them. If I keep up the level of factory sharpness (which is fine for my needs in most cases), then I don't have to actually sharpen for a long time. When I do I use a Sharpmaker, and so far I'v...

Rest in peace. You will be sorely missed.
Don't forget Bill Moran. That's quite an impressive quartet to be taken from us in the past few years.

R W Loveless has passed away...

Sad news from over on BF this evening. Word is that Bob Loveless died today at 11:30. One of the brightest stars in the world of custom knifemaking has gone but his work and his contributions will last for generations.

I use my Paras quite a bit. They're the knives I go to when we're headin' out to the woods or working around the house / yard/ garden. They're all original models and are likely to stay that way. I haven't held a Para 2, but based on descriptions and specs, I don't think it improved for me. The blad...

I don't have any stake in the knife because I don't have one on order, but I really appreciate Spyderco's close relationship and high level of trust with the ELU. That's a big reason why Spyderco is my most frequent (and favorite) buy and carry.

If you want to have a G10 D4 done you might talk to Chase Axinn at Chaxknives.net. He's done some really nice scale work for me in the past.

IIRC, STR also does some scale work. Don't know if he works in CF or not.

So, if you were to only use one, which would you choose: a strop, or the ultra-fine hones? Which is better? I'm not thombrogan, but if I could only do one I'd stick with the UF rods. They seem to get to that "next level" quicker than my strop and I do keep a more consistent angle with the...

I've used 'em for a couple of years now. They do take things to another level if you want a polished edge. Almost (I say, almost) like stropping.

I have an older pair (Millie & Paramillie) that both have jimping like the middle knife in Paul's pic (as well as a single liner). I don't think it's an after-market mod, I think that's the way they came for a period of time before the change to finer jimping for the latest models.

I was thinking about it before. You are right, it looks very similar to Caly. One drawback is that, it is made in Taiwan. Second, I saw it only on pictures. So I don't know how it feels in my hand. The Sage & Caly 3 look pretty similar in pix, but I've had several models of both and they feel v...

How do you clean the Ultrafine honing stone for the Triangle Sharpmaker kit ? I was uncertain to use abrasive cleanzer, like Comet, as I use on the other triangle stones, or not. Love the P51 Mustang as well as the P38 Lightning, but after watching what some of our boys did with those goofy little Hellcats, I think they deserve an honorable mention. IIRC, the Hellcat had the highest enemy aircraft kill rate of any US fighter in the PTO. It was designed specifically to kill ...

Yamamoto would agree He certainly found out what the businesss end of the P-38 was all about. My fav two US fighters would be the F4U and the P-47. Just to tie this thread to a knife forum, I kinda think of the "Jug" as the Spyderco of ETO fighters. Not the fanciest or the sleekest, but c...
