If this is limited to Spyderco scales, I'd vote G10. I'm very utilitarian. If we're talking overall favorites, my first choice (and the one I voted for) would be micarta as long as it's textured like ESEE's scales or BRKT's matte finish.

Of the ones you mention, I'd take the N5 and reconsider the Chaparral. I carry an N5 as my weekday work knife. It's really outstanding. I'm just the opposite of Paul in that I prefer G10 or FRN over natural materials like wood or bone, and I don't like bolsters. I also don't like much in the way of ...

I currently EDC a Native 5 even over my Sebenzas and my Paras. In fact, my N5 has made me forget that I was mad at Spyderco for dropping the G10 Caly 3. I also have or had Sage 1 & 2 models. I like the Sages and I still have a CF Sage that gets occasional "dressy" carry, but the've nev...

I agree with Jack. I've had several different strops, but I still keep a couple of their strop blocks around and use them more often than any others. Even after using the UF Sharpmaker rods, I like to finish with a few light passes on the green block.

Sal, This might be a little early but I'm already thinking to the Blade Show in Atl. My suggestion (or hope) is that your team decides to have knives for sale this year. Last year I saw Benchmade make a killing selling their knives during the show. Hopefully you decide it's worth the time and effor...

They show up pretty regularly on BF's FT/FS boards. You just have to watch them often and be patient.

I can only tell you what I did. I've had Stretch's in VG10/FRN and CF/ZDP189 and I didn't like either of them. I like a thicker blade and a different blade shape than the Stretch offers. I also like a bit wider handle. OTOH, I have 3 Para 1s and 2 Para 2s and it's a frequent EDC. It covers warehouse...

I'm the only one in the world I think that doesn't really like ZDP. I prefer VG-10. No you're not. Of those two steels, I'd take VG-10 every time as well. 'Course, I still like 1095 and A2 and D2 better than most newer steels, too. Picking from the available Spydercos in ZDP, I'd take the D4. I lik...

I kind of like not having the marketplace here - it focuses us all on the discussion. There are plenty of forums for buying/selling/trading stuff. Just my $0.02. TedP I agree. And I think that just having the marketplace will change the personality of this forum by attracting buyers / sellers who h...

That's how I like my folders. If they aren't that tight from the factory, then I tighten 'em up to that point. At the end of the closing the blade still snaps shut... but it doesn't move until I move it.

While it's true that Spyderco probably doesn't have a model that compares point-by-point, I think that the Gayle Bradley (but it isn't Ti, if that's what you have to have) will do just about anything the ZT 300 will do except pull your pants down. I've had a GB and a ZT 350. The ZT is built well eno...

As for carrying my para 2 that way, I assumed it would be too big to be comfortable. Para 1 & 2 are perfect for IWB carry. When I carry mine, that's most often where they ride... between 10:00 & 11:00 so I can reach 'em with either hand. My Millie is a bit too long for comfort there, but th...

Good answers so far. Also, I'd add that since it's a new knife, did you use a Sharpie to check the angles and make sure you were hitting the edge? At 40 degrees, there shouldn't be any issue getting the edges, but it never hurts to check a new blade that you're not familiar with. With the UF rods, m...

I share the OP's love of SS backspacers, lockbacks (or midlocks), 3" blades, leaf shaped blades, etc. I'm currently pocketing an N5 for EDC and it's really becoming a favorite. I like the weight and rigidity that SS backspacers add in a smaller folder.

I like a heavy pressure on all types of locks, backlocks, liner locks, frame locks, etc. I really prefer to have to work to unlock a knife. I've used quite a few with very good success, but my top three that I keep going back to (for Spydercos) would have to be New Graham, Knife Center, and Cutlery Shoppe. Others that have been very good to me are Grand Prairie, Knifeworks, Knives Ship Free, and Oso Grande Knives.

Thanks for the pix and the story, Cliff. I'm happy to see a Para 1 getting some positive press. It's still my fav of the two versions and the only one I currently have. Didn't like the P2 enough to keep mine but I've got two Para 1s.
