Re: Time for a mini Catcherman?
Perhaps off topic a bit, but will swerve back at the end. There's been several posts in the past about reviving the Catcherman (in it's original size). Many of us have shown support for that endeavor. Thinking a fully serrated model in Vanax would rock for a wide variety of tasks. For skinning, I ha...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!
Thin, flexible, impervious to rust, with a staggering amount of edge holding, anyone else thinking this material would make one hellova fillet knife? Realizing there's no such thing as "the perfect knife", HIC-EC could possibly end my search for a new fillet. Especially since it checks all...

Kept getting time out errors and having to swing back, indeed stressful. After third error and re-attempts, she finally confirmed.

Re: CPM SPY27 steel
You hear the term "sharpener's steel" tossed around, some folks in that camp also want stainless.
SPY27 is the new "Stainless sharpener's steel". Props to Spyderco for making it happen.
Anyone know which foundry it's out of?

Re: Black Friday cyber Monday DEALs?!?
MAP doesn't prevent any dealer from selling less than another. It simply limits how low you can ADVERTISE an item. The easy way around it, is to add a line that says, "add to cart, to see price". bud-a-bing, done deal. Just remember MAP= minimum ADVERTISED price Anything other than that wo...

Re: I almost missed out - K390 PM2
Ding, your wish has been granted! Unfortunately you'd have to buy it in iran to get it for that price however. They are currently rioting over the price increase from a mere 25c a gallon a month ago.

Re: DLC and rust.
Sal himself stated in a post (that I cannot be bothered to hunt down) that DLC was NOT to prevent rust, that in fact could actually hide it, till it became a problem (or something to that effect). I was always under the impression from various posts, that DLC's benefit was to help hold oil in place,...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
I like coated stones for some toothy applications, repair work, and re-profiling. However the feedback from coated also leaves a lot to be desired, also grates on me like finger nails on a chalk board. Have some kitchen knives that I wouldn't even dream of putting on that rough coated surface, but o...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
When you watch Murray vids consider what he's sharpening, steels like super blue don't require anything special to sharpen. Are you planning on sharpening k390, 10v, maxamet, and the likes? If so, watching vids by guys who are actually sharpening that class of steels, may serve you better in the lon...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Despite all theories S30V does not require Diamonds far from it. In fact I am now a great lover of S30V until now I lacked tools and education. I agree that S30V is not exactly considered high vanadium, and is rather easy to sharpen. Honestly if you don't plan to sharpen what I would consider extre...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Honestly, ever since I've gotten the diamond bench stones, I rarely touch the shaptons. With shapton pros, (or glass) you can certainly sharpen a knife on either, they work. But with the variety of steels we have today, some containing large amounts of vanadium, I feel the newer abrasives with diamo...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
In my ongoing journey I have arrived at the shapeton waterstones. Does anyone have experience with them and willing to share some tips and tricks? Seems to me you can jump allot of grits with water stones like Murray Carter does going from 1000 to 6000. Arrived? Meaning you're considering, or have ...

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive Para Military 2
Seeing how 20CP is simply an analog of Crucible CPM S90V, and we have lots of S90V sprints. 'Spect it's cheaper to buy Crucibles version? It's 20CV. Indeed this sprint is 20CV. But hopefully my edited original post above shows more clearly that I was simply responding to an off topic question that ...

Re: K390 PM2 | Testing
I like mine to stay shaving sharp, so the working edge characteristics aren't as important. I like super sharp fine edge holding too and most people here seem to prefer that. Cruwear is king at that and it's no wonder that that steel is so popular right now. Maybe Maxamet or K390 at higher HRC woul...
