Hi Clay, I've been keeping an eye on that, and have been quietly optimistic -- though as you say we don't know if the production model will be switchable. I do remember Sal saying a long time ago that Bob Lum wanted the Chinese folder to be tip-down... But at least now I get to dream of a Lum Tanto ...

Thank you Sal, I look forward to the G10 Lum Tanto. My particular preference for tip-up is based on how I tend to grip a knife -- which comes from several years of working as a chef. On larger knives, tip-up placement moves the clip back and out of the primary grip area, and is thus much more comfor...

Any future for tip-up + G10 at Spyderco?

While I don't want to open a tip-up vs. tip-down argument, it is enough to say that most knife knuts seem to have a strong preference for one or the other. Since my recent purchase of a full-size Wegner I have come to prefer tip-up, and when I went looking for other medium to full-size Spyderco fold...

I think there are three Temperances:

1. Temperance Jr. Folder (swept point)
2. Temperance Jr. Fixed Blade
3. Temperance Folder (drop point)

I looked up the FAA guideline, and the official blade length limit is 4" But individual airports and airlines often have tighter restrictions. The lowest common denominator we have experienced is 3" max blade and no serrations. Serrations have been demonized recently for some reason. As al...

1. concept The first part of quality starts with a design that is optimized for a particular task or set of tasks -- even if that task is just "General Purpose Utility." Much of the appeal of Spyderco's inhouse designs lie in their aura of purpose. 2. material selection The qualities -- ad...

Thanks Sal. I've already got my Gunting money set aside, so I'm starting to chomp at the bit.

Pictures of the Gunting production model?

The only Gunting images we've seen so far are of an early prototype. BRAM and others have said that there have been a number of small changes. Now that the knife is supposed to be shipping in two weeks, are there any images of a finished model for us to preview. Or if not now, then when will images ...

You might want to consider Bob Dozier. He makes excellent kydex sheaths for his fixed blades.

You can see some of his stuff online at http://agrussell.com/ within the "handmade knives" section.

Hi Sal, Oh well, I had to try. If you ever reissue the Jot Singh Khalsa, it would be a good candidate for white G10 Shell scales. Then it would look more like his custom pieces. Here are some Khalsa scan urls with Charoite scales the ill...

Of course you just have to call it "Spydershell."

Alt. spelling: SpyderShell.

"I'll take a serrated Vesuvius with green Spydershell handle..."

1. "Lower grade" steels used for some of the economy/accessible models -- AUS 6, AUS 8, to a degree even ATS 55 (though I should know better). Perhaps as a knife knut it is a self-created problem, but these are an instant turn-off for me. If VG-10 were your basic steel (not just on Calypso...

Thanks for the info. I'll be lying in wait for the Lum. :-)

I guess "Gunting" goes onto the shopping list before "Temperance."

Thanks again.

Bob Lum "Chinese" folder.

Is the Chinese folder still targetted for a late September release. I am trying to organize my knife budget and Spyderco has too many goodies available and forthcoming.

Also, any word on Sal's in-house MBC design -- the Temperence and Temperence Jr.?

Thanks.
