Re: My thoughts on the Chaparral FRN
As far the texturing goes, I haven't had much of problem with it tearing up pockets. I actually think the texturing on the Native, Delica, etc is harder on the pocket. I could be wrong there but I seem to notice it less on the Chap. Maybe it's just that the wire clip doesn't apply as much pressure?...

Re: I don't like thumb ramps
I don’t really understand why you would want your thumb on the spine. I put my thumb there when fondling knives, especially when they have jimping there (“must be there for a reason”). But when using? I don’t think so.
Lots of knife patterns don’t support thumbing the back of the blade.

Re: My thoughts on the Chaparral FRN
There’s a limit to how long a blade can be that’s this thin. It’s already got a little flex to it. But yes, enthusiast grade slicing geometry could probably drive a larger model as well.

Re: Spyderco/Phil Wilson Bow River
How would you compare it to Kershaw's 8Cr13MoV? Never had any of Spyderco's 8Cr but I've had good experiences with Kershaw. No experience with Kershaw's :( but I've had several knives in Spyderco 8Cr. I think it's just fine. For a fixed blade of that type I think it will be just fine. Plus... $33 s...

My thoughts on the Chaparral FRN
There was so much buzz about this knife from prominent knife people that I pulled the trigger when Ebay ran a 15% discount. $72 shipped. Here's a few pictures of mine. It's pretty much what you expect given the reviews I've read: compact, tight, slicy. https://i.imgur.com/r8PF272l.jpg https://i.imgu...

Re: Stretch 2 G10 input needed.
I only have an original Stretch FRN. It’s a great design, I’m sure the Stretch 2 is solid. But having used an FRN Stretch I have to ask: why G-10? The FRN version is lighter, way cheaper, and has lots of ergonomic curves that the G-10 version lacks.

0.05 oz is nothing. Difference in blade grind can easily swing that much.

I don't flick. The whole point of a thumbhole is to make this easy and controllable.

Re: Sal, why is the Delica grinded so thick behind the edge ?
Couldn't sleep this morning, drew a diagram. https://imgur.com/KhHNTQE.png The diagram is obviously just to show what thicker and thinner mean. There are three measurements at play here: the stock thickness, the thickness behind the edge, and the secondary bevel angle/height. The primary angle is eq...

Re: How Are Clip Types Chosen?
I think Sal said recently that wire clips are tricky to make. I don’t know if that translates to expensive or not. My speculations... I think they’re probably more costly and awkward to do in a 4 position configuration — you have a lot of grooves and holes to machine and be vacant. Also while I’m sl...

Re: Sal, why is the Delica grinded so thick behind the edge ?
Try a Chaparral, very thin blade, very nice slicer... There's one in the mail. It's going to trigger a collection reckoning though. Well yes of course the edge bevel contributes to how thick the blade is. I made that diagram for another argument about taller blades vs shorter blades. Oh, my mistake...

Re: Sal, why is the Delica grinded so thick behind the edge ?
It would appear that the angle of the flat grind and subsequent thickness at the edge depends directly on the height of the piece ground given the widths are the same. Precisely. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee275/EVIL85SSP/Knives/bladeheightissue.jpg~original But, given the same blade thickn...

Re: AFI Performance Flash Batch
I would rather see a model that specializes in sliciness. I doubt customer service wants to ask every customer which type of Delica or whatever they bought.
It seems like most models could stand to be a little thinner behind the edge though. There may be a production aspect that influences that.

Re: Steel preference for SE enthusiasts?
I think it’s worth making a distinction between the steel and the combination of steel, heat treatment, and edge geometry that define a blade. The steel of the week in a slightly softer format may be just fine in SE. I’m not opposed to a wear resistant steel that takes longer to sharpen. But I don’t...
