Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)

Thanks! :smlling-eyes The "problem" (don't find any better term) and the "trigger" are actually not folks who talk about the one or the other lock - but those who just can't help to always and unreflectedly emphasize how "unsafe" a linerlock is compared to a comp.lock ...

I'm sorry, but I have never accidentally opened or closed my knife, no matter the lock. But thanks, I appreciate your concern for my safety.

Not really concerned for your safety, but always happy to offer advice to others. Have a nice day.

Re: Manix 2 cage lock question...

<snip> I can unlock a Manix with a single finger or thumb using a replacement spring, but not with the OEM spring. And that's exactly why I advise against replacing the stock spring with a weaker one, because the likelihood of accidentally unlocking it with only one finger is much higher than if tw...

Re: Manix 2 cage lock question...

And replacing the spring is a horrible idea, you want that extra tension and deliberate effort required to disengage the lock. Unless you are using the knife strictly as a fidget toy or something silly like that. We all have our preferences, and I think replacing the spring is a good idea. :cheap-s...

Re: Manix 2 cage lock question...

I personally wouldn't use an aluminum cage, the metal is quite brittle and much more prone to failure in the event it takes some impacts or has very slight manufacturing defects. I would also be concerned about marring the stainless ball with a material that would be as hard. Obviously copper and br...

Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)

Liner locks were just fine decades ago, but nowadays there are much better designs both in strength and also operationally. First of all, the liner lock forces you to put your thumb directly in the cutting path of the closing blade. Not a good thing. Secondly, the liner lock suffers from a greater d...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

I think the primary grind on the MagnaCut Native is more acute than the LC200N. Since the earlier photo I sharpened the tip on the MC blade to 15 degrees like I have it on the LC200N blade and you can see how much wider the bevel is on it vs. the LC. The serrations as is on the MC are actually more...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

Anyone know how many of each PE vs SE of these they are producing, % wise? I don't have a need or experience with any Salt, but I would think that for most salt applications, a SE would be a bit more useful for cutting rope, straps, emergency use underwater, etc. Also makes me wonder how past Salt ...

Spyderco.com always lists at msrp. No surprises there Thanks to opfocus it will be sold out soon. And thanks to Spyderco for offering OpFocus to those folks who are out there day in day out on the front lines doing the really important work, making mere peanuts, unlike the rest of the professional ...

I know I am responding to this about 3 months after it was posted (I am working my way through this thread 3 or 4 pages every evening), but ... I have had exactly the same thought when someone grumbles about "why are we putting 15V into this MONSTER knife of the Manix 2". Eh? What? The Ma...

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

It's weird how salty everyone is being about the issue of OT posts in a thread like this one. <snip> Based on the subject of this thread, it should be open to *anything* relating to this particular knife, even if there are other sub-threads discussing more specific topics. That's great that people ...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

The Magnacut Native 5 Salt was in stock and sold out on Spydercos website already. It should be shipping to dealers very soon if they haven’t started already. I would advise that people wait until this knife gets to retailers. As we know, Spyderco lists these knifes at a much higher price point tha...

DLT did in fact have some. Dude on phone just told me that they had 28 orders, and it sold out in about 3 minutes. Got the same info, also said notifications went out. I've yet to receive a notification from a drop...anyone have a suggest as how to fix that please message me. The notifications are ...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

They got me with the Black Friday price. 🙄 Yeah I wound up up cancelling my year old pre-order for the N5 MC salt and re-ordering at the BF price. Figured with how much time I've spent in line, might as well get it at the better price should it ever come in stock.... I also ordered a Waterway at th...

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

Continuing the drift away from talking about 15V and moving on to prissy trinkets. I get tempted to get one of those ball cages in some kind of metal. A pretty expensive experiment for north of $30, but I still might. I am thinking I will give brass a try. Everyone just has to have titanium, but no...

I've not yet posted in this thread, because alert thread, but sal and Mike have. Doesn't that tell us something? 🤔 Not really, all it says is that their accounts are setup to auto-post to welcome a new member. Notice how they all say the same exact thing, using a cookie cutter post template. Bots f...

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

I snagged one of these at White Mountain, and I already have an AWT scale set and Flytanium ball cage waiting for it's arrival. I'm debating on whether to go with a ceramic ball and lighter spring. I typically don't have a problem with the factory spring rate on the Manix knives, but I'm also curio...

Re: Spyderco 2022 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

RamZar, What's the deal with new Magnacut stuff? Did it get killed off in testing? Been using the Magnacut Mule Team since they dropped a year ago. Seems more than adequately rust resistant. The issues weren't with the steel by itself (single slab of Magnacut in a Mule), but rather how Magnacut int...
