Re: First Glimpse at my Swayback

Thank you Carrot :-) I have updated the review with many new photos including my bottle butt test. The Swayback is a little tricky to open but since I bave decided to open it à la Michael Janich (with the ring finger) it is tricky no more. Also opening is slowly coming a 100% fire ration. I need rea...

Re: First Glimpse at my Swayback

Thank you ! :-)

The only thing which I wanted is a titanium clip because of the titanium handle and I got some spare to try on it.
Now my main issue is the opening and I have found a way: the ringfinger opening:

First Glimpse at my Swayback

Hello there, here is my little review: https://nemoknivesreview.com/2020/08/14/this-is-the-swayback-spyderco-c249tip-first-glipse-at-a-sebenza-grand-child/ Since my writing I have been able to use it for lunch in the kitchen. It is just amazing how thin the edge is. I have found an easy way to open ...

My first glimpse at the Siren !

Today I have received Surfingringo's Siren. Here are my little thoughts about it with pictures: https://nemoknivesreview.com/2020/06/25/the-working-seahorse-spyderco-siren-c247g/ I love when knives are made as EDC tools. It is not always the case. This one is made a forgiving workhorse. An everyday ...

Re: Para 3 Review. A great Youtuber with real visual and storytelling.

Great video review! I love seeing people actually use their knives in everyday situations rather than ramble for 20 minutes over a tabletop. Thanks for sharing Nemo! Refreshing, thx for posting :spyder: You are welcome ! I have watched his other videos. He is very good at drone's shots too. ...

We must be watching different videos. I didn't see him do anything other than fidget with it and cut open a couple bales of hay. His editing is unremarkable.
Thank you for sharing your good vibes.

Re: Para 3 Review. A great Youtuber with real visual and storytelling.

His videos are okay I guess. Pretty typical Youtube fare...too many jump cuts and lots of really bad music. Wranglerstar's Para 3 review is much more substantial IMO... Jump cuts ? There is a good pace in his editing and his videos are rich in various set and beautiful sequences. I even wonder how ...

Re: Para 3 Review. A great Youtuber with real visual and storytelling.

The videos are so well made. I'm planning to see all his video collection during that confinement times. ;) Laughing is important. And those video are fresh ! I love subjective reviews. To each their own. Spyderco is not famous in Norway where the local knife culture is very important. All my friend...

Para 3 Review. A great Youtuber with real visual and storytelling.

Hello Spyderfan ! Farmer E is a Norwegian which got a real knack in English, filming, editing and story telling. Apprently he has fallen in love with his Para 3. https://youtu.be/Ut4EKyKrFSQ https://youtu.be/vjQyUGI42J4 https://d12swbtw719y4s.cloudfront.net/images/eHsmryps/NEIvwVkvNjHgWQSjP4JT/O29z8...

Re: Can some steels be bad for our health ?

Hey Nemo, Are you planning any trips to the States? We'll be at the Blade show in Atlanta in June. I miss our chats. Gail and I aren't making many trips overseas these days. Age creeps in. Our longest trips these days are to Kauai. sal Hey Sal, Sylvie wants to make a trip to Colorado for quite a lo...

Re: Can some steels be bad for our health ?

It's an interesting discussion and does bring awareness to the folly of California Prop 65. I personally do not think there is risk except for those professions mentioned and dry grinding. Our new steel was based on Cobalt and 27 is the number for Cobalt in the Periodic table. If we thought there w...

Re: Can some steels be bad for our health ?

Am assuming none of those who worry about the toxicity of trace metals in steel have ever shot on an indoor range, parked in a parking garage, driven behind a bus or diesel powered truck, walked on a busy city street, been exposed to second had tobacco smoke (or, God forbid, smoked tobacco themselv...

Re: Can some steels be bad for our health ?

Fun subject. Figures it would be Nemo to bring this up from the depths. :p I remember Nemo and I discussing Eric Taberly's death in the sea, because he spent so much time at sea. So in the end, what gets you is what you do the most? That concept brings up some interesting thoughts? We have to...

Re: Can some steels be bad for our health ?

I think that knife maker confuses cobalt dust with iron alloy dust containing small amounts of cobalt. And even then, studies talk about chronic exposure to these dusts of cobalt, months, even years of daily exposure. The difference is day and night, it's kind of sad when such misconceptions are sp...

Welp, I'm doomed. I have about 10 home made knives with 5-10% cobalt (m35,m42,t42). I ground them all from parting tools.... 30 years ago.
Maxamet is 10% cobalt.
So how do you do? 😂

Re: Can some steels be bad for our health ?

I don't think simply using knives with cobalt presents a health hazard. Look at David Boye - he's been making kitchen knives with what - 70% cobalt? - for years and years and I haven't heard anything negative about it. Yes this is a very good point ! You are right Stellite! Talonite ! :) And 70% is...

Re: Can some steels be bad for our health ?

These pages build on the principle that you have to know for yourself what the risks are Sorry, which pages you are talking about ? :) It'd be amazing if polishing the patina off a using knife would produce a lethal dose of anything. But would a cobalt steel lose some cobalt in the cutting material...

Re: Can some steels be bad for our health ?

Nickel anyone? Dober dan ! "Cobalt has few, but highly specialized, uses in alloy steels. Its behavior is similar to nickel , in that it forms a complete series of solid solutions with iron at elevated temperatures and is also extremely soluble in ferrite. It is a potent ferrite strengthener; ...
