Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

For what it's worth, Spyderco didn't bring any prototypes or production samples for upcoming knives to BLADE West, just current production items, which meant that a lot of the midyear catalog items were not at the show. But they did have the Amalgam in the display case. ;) As far as S30V vs S35VN is...

Re: Blade Show West

I had a great time at the show. I got to meet Michael Janich and Ed Schempp. Michael Janich was very friendly and helped put me at ease (I was kind of in awe and starstruck being in the presence of makers and designers who are practically legends to me :o). And Ed Schempp was very humble and gave me...

Re: Replacement Blades: Would you be for it if it could be done?

The desire for a replacement blade may be there for some, but how many, and more importantly how many are actually needed? I’d guess that most people who break, or otherwise damage a blade, will just get another knife... ...This might sound like a good idea for anyone having or anticipating a damag...

Re: Replacement Blades: Would you be for it if it could be done?

It sounds very complicated to me. I would just think of the current no reblade policy like this- think of the knives as if they were fixed blades. If you broke a blade there, would you expect to be able to get it rebladed? :p

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

Nice to see how a design evolved. I have to say i like your original prototype in white the most. I prefer the more rounder shape. The final version has more straight and blocky lines which do nothing for me personally. I also prefer the wire clip and while i don't use a lanyard myself i do find a ...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

I got a special delivery this week, thought I'd share some pictures while I'm watching a new sneak preview video on Nick Shabazz's channel (the Brouwer looks great, the Mantra 3 makes me think of a beefed up Delica, and the McBee looks impressively small and yet somehow still ergonomically well thou...

Re: If you had to pick just one?

If I could only keep one it would have to be this one. The signature really means a lot to me, and gives it a lot of sentimental value. Oh, and I guess it's also okay as a user :D

Re: Spyderco blade logo CQI

I really like the Taichung logo engravings as well. The path used for the engraving really does create a neat subtle effect with the light play.

Re: Fist in the Eye

Perhaps they optimized the heat treat for toughness in the puuko. We can speculate all we like, but we need more real world feedback for this model. It certainly looks beautiful, and I agree that it's interesting they chose S30V for this model. It's Spyderco though, so I'm sure they carefully consid...

Re: Jerry Brouwer review

Man the Brouwer is a looker! My first Spyderco was a Native (1? What's the original called? Native FRN?). The idea of a slimmed Ti framelock Native with a G10 scale in my favorite color is very very appealing. And did I mention how good it looks? Absolutely gorgeous, and it looks like it would be ve...

Re: Manix2 4v marbled carbon fiber exclusive

The handle shape negates the smooth scales in my opinion. Shouldn't have any problem holding onto this knife. Heck, take a look at the Bushcraft! Now those are smooth scales, and I don't recall too many people saying it should have used peel ply G10 instead :D

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

It served me great on my Buck Vantage, and I recently switched to carrying a plainjane Paramilitary 2 to acclimate myself to Spyderco's S30V. It's been good to me so far. But I do understand the lust for exotic steels. I have a Shilin knife with clad Cowry-X and love it, though I have to admit I've ...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

Thanks for the feedback on the choil. I happen to agree with you here :) I also liked the first foamboard mockup. Maybe I need to try to get a job at Spyderco; then it wouldn't matter that my style is too close to the in-house style, since I would actually be in-house! Hey, a guy can dream :D I can ...

Re: Mantra 3 Release?

Just my opinion, but when I use a Para2 I need to release the lock bar early when swinging the blade shut to prevent the blade from bouncing back open again. I think if you just release the lock bar early on any compression lock flipper then you can avoid having the flipper tab hit your finger. Here...
