Re: S30V or 204P for food prep?

I own the CTS-204P Military and can definitely recommend it as a really great knife, both for ergonomics and the blade steel, but I think using it as a prep knife only is seriously under utilizing it! It'll get used for a lot more than food prep, rest assured. We're just kind of a foodie family and...

Re: S30V or 204P for food prep?

This blade will get douched after use. Soap and hot water after grill duty and at least a good swish in the creek and wipe down when in the bush. It might even get a bit of leftover hot water.

Stainless is still the way to go for this project, though.

Re: S30V or 204P for food prep?

I doubt food prep will ever ask for the somewhat better edge-holding of 204P over S30V and, if it ever does, recovering the former's edge will be somewhat more demanding than the latter's. Corrosion resistance being practically the same, either steel will do, IMO. This knife will do other tasks, it...

Re: S30V or 204P for food prep?

Yup, Nate. Military. Nothing super heavy, either. Just cutting veggies, cheese, bread and the like and also being in my pocket while grilling and used to maybe cut some chicken pieces before grilling, or slice a chunk off the nearly-done tri-tip or shave off a rib to give someone a taste. Might even...

S30V or 204P for food prep?

If you were getting a knife that would be used around the grill and camp table fairly often for cutting vegetables and slicing grilled meat, which would be better steel, S30V or CTS-204P? My guess is six of one, half a dozen of the other. Hoping someone can chime in on ease of sharpening and edge re...

Re: 5 Spydercos I have never regretted buying

I've only owned five and I like them all very much. I'd buy each again, for sure, although I don't yet have enough experience with my Manix 2 XL S30V to say that assertion is unequivocal. In alphabetical order: Caly 3.5 - Lots of blade in the smallest possible package. Great EDC where discretion is ...

Re: Rec on best pocket fishing knife

I use my PM2 S110V in this role. I think I would have a difficult time finding anything better. I think if I needed to go smaller than that, I'd lean more toward Delica 4 than Para 3 as I slightly prefer its blade shape for gutting small Trout. That, however, would probably change quickly once the S...

Nothing beats a well-built compression lock for me. The easiest to operate one-handed and blindfolded if I had to. **** .... left-handed and blindfolded if push came to shove. My blurple PM2 S110V is so smooth ..... a pure joy to flick and operate. Without question my all-time favorite knife. I have...

Re: One spydie...just ONE.

Midnight Blue PM2 in S110V would be my first choice. Midnight Blue Para 3 in S110V with an aftermarket deep-carry clip would be a very close second. Sage 5 almost ties for second but comes in third (just barely) due to blade shape. I could live with any of the three of those, and probably a Manix 2 ...

I am around water 6-7 days a week and often use my EDC for food prep. With almost no second thought or much more than a modicum of consideration I'd choose (and did!) S110V.
