Re: Polished Edge: When, Why, What Steels??

This makes sense! I haven't done any microbevels, so could you explain how you do yours? Yeah, I usually sharpen somewhere around 15 to 17 degrees per side, deburr and repair damage on the stones. Edge is very sharp at this point, capable of push cutting newsprint against the grain whisper quiet. N...

Re: Polished Edge: When, Why, What Steels??

My work knives I prefer a mirror polish bevel set followed by a sharpmaker medium microbevel. Now if anyone cares to go past things that we can all test in the real world and think about theory: Wouldn't one of the main reasons to work up a grit progression to a polished edge be to reduce subsurfac...

Re: K390 Police 4 LW SE

D and prndltech,

Thanks!! If I pick once up, I would plan on just keeping the serrated edge sharp on the SM. I wouldn’t plan on reprofiling. Thanks for getting back to me!

Re: K390 Police 4 LW SE

Do you think the standard brown rods on the SM will be able to handle this? Or will we have to upgrade to CBN or diamond rods?

Re: Shaman Z-Wear Sprint - General Discussion & Support thread - (not alerts)

I have the KC exclusive Manix in CF and Cruwear. This made me appreciate Cruwear. However, I didn’t want to patina the blade. All I’ve used it for is cutting and opening boxes, and I haven’t touched the first acidic food with it. Trying to keep a patina off of it. Then I sat down to eat last night. ...

Huge shout out to the Glessers and Spyderco crew! The finish and quality is truly hard to describe. The contoured Micarta is simply elegant and melts into my hand. The edge is extremely sharp. Very thankful to get to experience this peak of cutlery performance!

Re: Ouroboros G10 polished and contoured

David, How well do you think this could be done to a PM2? Getting the contoured scales could solve my itch for the Shaman! :D Thanks! Hamilton You can definitely polish it but you may not be able to get as much grain to show through. You need to really contour it a good amount to get that much grai...

Re: Interest in Front Flipper by Spyderco?

I don’t consider any of the Spyderco knives mentioned above to be true front flippers, the tabs are all at the rear/top of the knife. I’d love to see something from Spyderco in this area! Liquid Cobra, Please forgive me for not giving you credit for this thread as well. I was extremely impressed by...

Re: Interest in Front Flipper by Spyderco?

I am pretty fidgety with my knives. I tried a well regarded front flipper out of curiosity. It took a good bit of practice/getting used to/break in period, but I eventually became proficient at it. It is sort of fun, but less practical than almost every other opening mechanism, as in it takes more ...

Re: Interest in Front Flipper by Spyderco?

I hoped the Watu would be one. Hoping also that they adjust the detent better than at the flippers (Sliverax, mantra 3...) - the detent was way too soft. Ric, Good point! I had to make my detent harder on the Sliverax, but gem of a knife! Somewhat like a reverse Smock, but I love the looks of the S...

Interest in Front Flipper by Spyderco?

After watching EpicSnuggleBunny’s collection video, it made me want a front flipper! Doctor Frunkey has showed his Shamwari, and it has beautiful lines. Not having a flipper, makes everything berry continuous and sleek, like the essence of the Ikuchi. I watched a video on Stan Wilson and his creatio...

Next up, my LC200N Pacific Salt. Dulled it a bit at work and gave it a quick touch up. Four passes per side on a never been used fine sharpmaker rod setup free hand, then three passes per side on a 1 micron diamond paste strop. Very, very sharp. I plan to run polished edges on this knife until I ge...
