Re: Why carry a knife?
IMHO, the late James Mattis said it best and most succinctly: "My good reason to carry a knife is that God gave me rather weak teeth and rudimentary claws in an evolutionary trade-off. The hairy-armed person who figured out how to put an edge on a suitable rock made it possible for us to be rec...

Re: Confederate flag Spyderco Pride knife, custom order....
Moving on I remember seeing magazine ads with several different flags. I'm curious how many/what flags there were? Here's a screen shot of the page from the 2003 Spyderco Dealer Catalog that included the C72 Pride. It shows and identifies the 12 flags Spyderco offered (or planned) to offer on produ...

Re: If model _____ had been ___ it would have been perfect
If the bolstered Schempp Persian had been made with a FFG blade and without a Boye dent, it would have been perfect.

Re: Standard Stretch 2 In K390?
If they made it, I'd get one for the collection, but it's a tool steel, and that's not something I want in a knife I'm going to carry.

Re: The Carry Conundrum
Hey Paul, you might have posted this before but I was wondering if you have any photos of your entire kiwi collection? That was a neat project and you’ve probably got the most complete collection in existence. It would be nice to see some photos of the collection and some closeups of the individual...

Re: The Carry Conundrum
My choice almost always comes down to which of my dozen or more versions of the Stretch is going to ride in my back pocket and which of my 70+ versions of the Kiwi is going to ride in my watch pocket.

Re: U.S. Postal Service to Slow First-Class Delivery
I have laugh. We Americans have gotten so use to instant, or near instant, gratification that an extra day or two between hitting the "BUY" button and receiving whatever we purchased seems traumatic.

Re: A Wooden Knife Sharper Than Steel?
The one site says that a HW "table knife" can be 3 times sharper than "most commercial table knives". So, my first question would be, how do the define "table knife"? Wikipedia says "A table knife is an item of cutlery with a single cutting edge, and a blunt end – ...

Re: Left handed preference?
I'm somewhat ambi, find it easier to use a pocket knife with my left hand, and have a extremely strong preference for hand-neutral locks. Among Spyderco's offerings, the mid-lock is my favorite, the bolt action lock they used on the Sage 3 would be next, and the caged ball-bearing a distant third.

Re: Head Shaving Clippers
I've been using a Norelco electric razor to shave my head every few days for over 20 years. Have a Wahl grooming clipper that I share with my dog. Only use it if I get lazy and don't shave for over a week.

Re: Colors
My first choice would always be natural materials in either their natural color, or a color that seems reasonable for them. When it comes to plastics, I'm open to some shades of most colors, but want them opaque. The problem for me is that, while I like some shades of just about any color, there are...

Re: Why don't we see more bolsters?
Love bolsters when they're done right, as on the Kiwi, Schempp Persian, and Micro Dyad. When they're done wrong and defaced with visible screws, as on the Sage 4 and Schempp Bowie, they are an abomination.

Re: Compressed air sprayed liquid onto pivot area
Just a guess but, given that computer components are metal and plastic, I'd tend to think anything meant to be used around them would not be something that would damage them.

Re: Which model has impacted your preferences the most?
I'd have to say it was my first Spyderco, the Peter Herbst. I loved the Spyderhole opener but I disliked pretty much everything else about it. It showed me what to avoid in my future Spyderco purchases. Namely, wrong handed locks, fat handles, aluminum handles, and models with nothing between my fin...

Re: Two questions to Sal about aluminium scales
Spyderco gravitated away from aluminum handles years ago. That leads me to suspect the negatives, like ease of cosmetic damage, outweigh the positives. Which makes me wonder if both the choice of material and choice of texture may have been BHQ's.

Re: Putting utility aside, what's the best looking Spyderco ever made ?
Among Spydercos that went into production, my vote would go to the smooth red G10 Sprint version of the Schempp Persian... http://www.paulberetta.com/schempp_persians/images/schempp_01.jpg But this one that never did caps it... http://www.paulberetta.com/Bolstered%20Stretch/images/bolstered_stretch_...

Re: FRN Strength / Durability
If this is comparable to the melting point of FRN, then I think it is suitable. 500 degrees is pretty solid, as that is basically an oven at that point. My guess would be correct if this is true as well, as then FRN would only be susceptible to very high levels of heat like a open flame. If your kn...
