Thanks for your thoughtful thoughts. Sorta felt like I’d been there.

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

Got a Maxamet Sage5 coming, for eventual comparison to the imminent REX121 Sage5.

Now I wish I’d jumped on BHQ’s exclusive M4 Sage5.

EDIT TO ADD: It’s arrived and affirms my liking for the new bi-directional FRN that first grabbed me in the Chaparral6.

Lubricity.

Eric’s enthusiasms are infectious.

I think I might be getting some coated blades, reluctant though I’ve been.

Re: What does “ergonomic” mean to you?

Outside the realm of custom knives, not to mention bespoke ones, “ergonomic” (to me) means having a handle that does not distract my attention from applying the blade to the work at hand. I speak here of Spyderco’s Delica and larger models. A handle too short (for my hand), or too thin without compe...

Would love to see the Millie 2 run in G-10/AEB-L, and the revealed Cobalt Blue G-10/SPY27.
Me, too.

Re: Would a D'Allara 4 with CBBL interest anyone?

I’m not a fan of making one Spydie model like another, so, no, a CBBL D’Allara4 does not appeal to me. I am a fan of Sal’s design philosophy, which includes taking a proven design and improving it as he sees fit. The man is inner-driven (even though he asks for our opinions) and I like that. I want ...

Re: Sharpmaker Elite Edition

Voted no. For me, the current SM is a tool first for learning the principles of edge-maintenance, then for putting a micro-bevel on a well-formed edge. The SM is pure genius for growing a market, but for me it’s a complement to freehanding on benchstones where an edge is to be well-formed AND where,...

Re: MagnaWear Easter Egg?

Higher edge retention...now I'm interested. I've been pretty unimpressed with Magnacut on my CRK. I've given it two different finishing grits (220 and 800) and haven't found it to be that great with either. Honestly I don't understand everyone clamoring for Magnacut... That is interesting, I am rea...

Re: What’s your favourite exclusive for future models?

Can’t say I much like dealers marking their territory with unique steel/handle-color combinations (but, then, I dislike sports-venues being named for sponsoring corporations). Which is not to say that I have avoided sponsored exclusives. I prefer to pick and choose naively, rather than knowingly rew...

Re: If laws and public perception were no issue, would you carry a different knife?

Neither laws nor public perception here in New Hampshire restrict what folder I choose to carry. I recently sold my much-loved Tatanka (adopted early to experience the Power Lock), less because it wanted way too much of my RFP, more because its blade’s weighty mass demanded much more attention, espe...

Re: New Sprint Run Hopefuls to Consider

Since Chad used the Lava and Spyderco as a stepping stone to hook up with Boker, I doubt we'll be seeing a Lava Sprint. Sal has so much as said that some number of collaborators did things that have made further collaboration a bridge too far. We can guess at a few of them, from things he’s said, b...

Re: 2023 - Did your preferences change or stay the same?

My preferences haven’t really changed year to year, just broadened, still within the Spyderco universe. This past year I added to my handle-forward collection (started years ago with my Caribbean) with the K390 Leaf Jumper and the VG10 and K390 Lil Temp3 LW. The upcoming Bodacious and Sequoia really...

Re: Browsing through the product guide: The two middle ground models that are still missing imo

Can’t say I’m looking for absences in the catalog.

I spend catalog-time arguing (with myself) what NOT to buy…probably because I’ve lost so many such arguments through the years.

Re: Power Lock

I think my Tatanka was the first Spydie midlock without blade play. I loved the Powerlock for that especially, and the Tatanka for a whole lot more. But after several years, I sold it chiefly because of how the choil of its heavy blade felt on my index finger when closing. It felt just too foreign t...
