Re: EDC: Every Day Carry. What does it mean to you?
EDC for me means that the knife must carry well, cut well, and fit the context of my day. For office work days my needs are met with thinner blades of 2-3" and it cant look too threatening (Caly 3 HAP40, Urban K390, HAP40 Delica, Introvert, Cruwear Para3). This is pretty much exactly my stance...

Re: Pretty Spydercos that you can't see your self using
My Caly3 damascus/carbon fiber is my wedding and special occasion knife. I have only carried it on special occasions and it has only been used for a few light duty chores. That is as close as I get to not using a knife because it is purdy. Same here. I don't usually get knives for their looks, but ...

Ouroboros is a greater piece of ergonomic engineering, but the Pattada is more of a tried and true design. Do you want history, future or both?

I use a spray bottle of concentrated solution as shampoo. I am a very oily person, and it turns my skin oils into soap. It's a really nice human degreaser.

The Dunning–Kruger effect. http://psych.colorado.edu/~vanboven/teaching/p7536_heurbias/p7536_readings/kruger_dunning.pdf The original paper is worth a read. Funny enough, they can get the results to repeat in most countries, except for in SE Asia. As an introductory college science teacher, I have ...

I like my folders right around 2 to 3 inches.
I like my fixed blades either 20"blade/8.5" handle and 28.5"blade/ 12" handle and differentially tempered for a nice hamon.

Re: Ancient Knives/Edged Weapons/Tools Revisited
It is harder to do precise grinds on machinery (by hand) than by hand on traditional tools like stones. CNC changes the story a bit. Slow removal of material is your friend in precision work by hand. Fast removal takes less time to go wrong. This is why I finish my japanese swords and kitchen knives...

Re: Fires in the USA
The fires here are pretty crazy right now. They're on all sides but west west of me right now, and that's only cause the ocean is on the west side. I'm sincerely surprised it hasn't been declared a state of emergency. I heard Multnomah falls burnt, as did Bridal Veil. It's bad, but I won't know how ...

SolidState, ate em back brother! :p Thanks to you Bloke, I've been researching hog hunting from a helicopter, and getting a dirt bike with a holster. Apparently, my former falcon hobby can be replaced with trained Australian fox bats, and all I need to feed them is my mangoes. Mammals are usually m...

Re: Blade Show What you see and what You GET...
Sometimes the prototypes take a long time to hit the market, especially with non-conventional designs. I think it took 3 or 4 years of being in the protos before my knife made it to production. If you see it in the prototype group for a few years in a row, it's likely to get made. If you don't, you ...
