As far as I know, there is only an 8,000 grit DMT diamond stone, no 6,000 grit. (Unless this is really new and just became available. I wasn't able to find anything about this on their website either.) They do have a ceramic 2,200 grit though. Back to your question Jack: I believe that it will get t...

I have had mine for over a year now. I didn't try to break it in all at once.

It has smoothed out very well. It feels almost the same to me as the green extra-fine/1,200 grit.

Michael Janich worked for Blackhawk! before going to Spyderco.

So, there is a good chance that he designed it too.

Yes, it does take some time for new diamond stones to smooth out.

I have the tan extra/extra fine/8,000 grit & green extra fine/1,200 grit DMT dia-fold.

My brown G10/S35VN Para 2 had this problem.

I was able to fix it by clamping down on it by hand without any tools.

I had one of the Cerahone sharpeners too. I found out about them around ten years ago.

Too bad they never became as popular as other brands of diamond and ceramic sharpeners.

I try to remember to clean them up at work with the air compressor.

I wash and wipe off the blades from food residue too.

I have been using DMT stones for over ten years now and have not had any problems with them. They will hold up very well as long as light pressure is used, so that the diamond particles don't get ripped out. I did pick up an Eze-Lap model M round hone a few years ago because of how they were promote...

Cutlery Shoppe and National Knives are my go to Spyderco online dealers.

Like most folks, I haven't had any luck with local dealers at all.

Get a full-size fixed blade Kukri/machete if your only going to keep it at home.

If you want it portable, get the Rajah.

I have an extra set of DMT Dia-Folds, the extra coarse/coarse, fine/extra fine.

Plus a Double Stuff.

I take it into work every so often to sharpen the "other" knives that are for coworkers to use.

I carry standard right front pocket clipped-in tip-up for my 3-inch or smaller knives.

My larger knives (4-inch+) are usually carried un-clipped tip-up in the cell phone pocket of my cargo shorts/pants.

I try to carry two knives most of the time though.
