Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
Hi Werner, Thanks for having me over and showing me your collection! I enjoyed it very much and had a great time. Those are some fantastic pieces you have, and I'm definitely going to have to hunt for a couple models now that you've given me a chance to handle them, starting with a Manix 2 backlock ...

Re: 2018 Alistair Phillips!
After having the Kapara a couple weeks, I still love it's aesthetic, but the non buttery PM2-3 opening/closing still bugs me, which is also true for my Caribbean, PM2's and 3's remain King. Does anyone know if the Kapara or Caribbean have a pivot bushing? I think the bushings in the PM2 are why it ...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
holeshot, That black clip looks great! I typically like bare metal clips because I feel they wear better, but considering that deep carry is all about subtlety, that black Lynch clip looks really good. curlyhairedboy, Thanks for the compliments and thanks again for starting this thread! I'm glad tha...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
Thanks Brown_Recluse! A tip on swinging the blade closed - I just quickly fully depress the compression lock and immediately release the lock tab while simultaenously giving my wrist just the sliiiightest flick. Some pitfalls to avoid - 1) if you don't fully depress the lock tab, then the blade can ...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
I'm interested to hear what keithkevinken thinks. He seems to have quite a few knives pass through his hands. Looking forward to seeing these drop in the US, should be really soon now (edit: just saw Extra's post about DLT, looks like they're available now!). Can't wait to read the feedback (for bet...

Re: 2018 Alistair Phillips!
I've actually found my few Seki City and Maniago knives to have sharper edges than my Taichung knives. I think it may be less of an issue with the capability of Taichung and more of what the specific design calls for and what's requested of the design. On the Amalgams, Mantra, and Hundred Pacer that...

Re: New? Immerse!
This is an interesting thread and a very good point when it comes to this hobby. When I first started getting into knives and asked my buddy for a recommendation and how to choose a knife, his advice was very simple - just try it out and make sure it feels good in your hand. It wasn't about what loo...

Re: Mr. Wayne Goddard passes
My condolences, I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.
I have always liked the design of the Spyderco Goddard. I'm sure whatever Sal and Spyderco are planning for a sprint of the Goddard, it will be good and I'm definitely going to want to pick one up.

Re: 2018 Alistair Phillips!
Beautiful knife. I had a chance to check it out at the Taipei Meet. The contouring of the scales is great, and I love the way the handle edges are melted. Very nice ergos.

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
It still shows out of stock for me on BladeHQ. I don't know how their system works, does out of stock just mean preorders aren't live yet? I'm also excited, mainly to see what people make of it once they have it in their hands :D

Re: What are your thoughts on Spyderco's Peel-ply Carbon Fiber?
As others have said, the title and the poll appear to not match. The title is asking about the peel ply textured carbon fiber, which I love and think is fantastic. It has the grip of typical peel ply textured G10 but with the subtle flair of CF underneath. But it appears the poll is asking about the...

Re: Full flat grind, full of scratches?
The only scratches on blades that genuinely annoy me are the ones that should never have been there but after a while they don’t even matter. For example, my Southfork came not so sharp so I reprofiled it. I use a guided system and I’m anal regarding flat stones so I try to grind using the entire l...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
Jstn, thanks for the compliments! Yes, that's right, I was lobbying for CPM-20CV (or CTS204p or M390). I would love it if the model was successful enough to warrant an Exclusive or Sprint run, but I do feel extremely fortunate that it is in production in the first place :) The mark has kind of a sil...

Re: BladeHQ video and Joyce
Great video, it's cool to put faces to some names at Spyderco and to see what the crew there are carrying. It's really great to see how they have pride in their product and that many of them choose to carry knives that are made right in the Golden facility where they work.
