Re: Spyderco's ATS-55 Era: A Really Noteworthy Time In Spyderco History

I recently picked up the FRN version of the ATS-55 Rescue, and it's been my EDC since I got it. I love this thing. It's beautiful, and the handle in particular is impressive -- so ergonomic. Wish it was flat-ground, but that's easy enough to fix, maybe I'll send it off for a regrind one of these da...

Re: I don't like the way this forum discusses corrosion resistance

I like stainless knives because it bothers me when I spend lots of cash on a pretty new knife and then it gets rust all over. Also I do not want to have to clean and oil them every day. My ideal knife can be used on food and then rinsed off and dried on a towel, and will not rust when treated that w...

Sliced a tomato to have with a sandwich for lunch, with my ATS-55 Rescue.

Why do you carry a knife?

There are a lot of cool reasons that y'all like knives! I'm curious about them, and I want to know which are the most popular reasons. :) So: why do you like to carry knives around with you? What do you get the most enjoyment from doing with the knives, and what makes it worth the extra hassle of pu...

Re: Sprint Runs and the Abysmal Aftermarket.

Desire is the root of suffering. The less you want, the happier you are. Hi Darby, I've always said that "Serenity is found in the absence of desire". sal The concept of "not desiring anything" always reminds me of that sort of flat apathetic exhausted feeling you get with depre...

Re: Hide Ability between my Spyderco PM2 and my Kershaw Blackout

This only works for lightweight knives, but clipping a knife to my sock is the #1 most comfortable way I've discovered to carry one.

For hiding knives better -- maybe try stonewashing the clip so it's less shiny?

Re: Sprint Runs and the Abysmal Aftermarket.

You guys should really watch a show called American Greed, sums up this discussion nicely. Fact is, some people are just programmed to take advantage of others. To say that is “okay” of “I see nothing wrong “ with someone buying 20-30-100 of something people are really looking forward to owning and...

Re: Would you buy more or less Spydercos if they were all made in the same steel?

If they were all in S35VN, I'd be a little more interested in purchasing some that I currently wouldn't look twice at because they're not stainless. It probably wouldn't be enough to get me to actually buy more, but I'd definitely be more interested. And if they kept it up, not just for 2018 but for...

Re: Lil VS XL

I'd enjoy a Lil' Manix! I always loved the look of that knife, but as it is, the ergos are all wrong for my hands, and the way the handle is designed makes it really horrible for me. A shrunken one would fix that, and then I'd get to enjoy the Manix like y'all lucky people. However, as I said in the...

Re: Why did the market want heavier knives?

I'm another person who would really like to see some large and lightweight knives offered by Spyderco. I have small emough hands that smaller knives work for me, and the Native is a favorite of mine, but I really want a long thin lightweight knife to pair it with. Vivi's 4-5 inch range sounds perfec...

Re: Knife Birthday Present

Bright orange or blue Endura in VG10. Tough, rugged, big, won't break the bank if it gets damaged or stolen and easily identifiable. Orange Endura would be great, there's a very comfortable handle on those, good for using for long periods of time. I don't personally like the PM2 much and don't own ...

Re: fake Native 5 FRN CPM S110V?

Huh, that makes it even weirder that the FRN is chewed up around the screw edges -- now I'm really wondering what the heck was going on with that. Anyway, glad your knife is legit, hope you're enjoying it :) The Native is one of my favorite models, and my favorite "small knife" that's just...

Re: Knife for Maritime Academy Student

That sucks that the knife isn't working out for you. Spyderco does make a lot of smaller knives though. The Salt 2, or the Tasman Salt if you like hawkbills, are the smaller Delica-sized versions of the Pacific Salt. They also have the newer updated handle shape so they match the Delica's handle, wh...

Happy NKD everyone~

Am currently in negotiations to buy an old Spyderco Rescue off of eBay! Really hope I get that knife, it is beautiful and perfect and I've recently discovered that I really love sheepsfoot blades.

Re: fake Native 5 FRN CPM S110V?

You can tell if it's a factory second by looking at the spine of the blade -- the factory seconds will have a small notch filed into it to mark the knife as a second. If the notch is there it'll probably be near the jimping but not right on it, just a little more towards the tip from the jimping. Th...

Re: A Back-Up Unit ( BUU): With An Opening Hole Too

Back-up units are awesome. https://i.imgur.com/hvy0Af2.jpg I don't usually carry more than one knife on me at any particular time, but at home I have plenty of BUUs of the Native 5 LW in DLC, both serrated and plainededge. Back-ups are important in other contexts too! Computer data, in partic...

Seconding the Peacent. I don't own a hawkbill blade myself yet, but I've heard a lot of good things about how awesome they are for cutting large amounts of rope. That orange Spyderhawk sprint run is still available. And the smaller Tasman Salt is available as well, if you're looking for a smaller De...

Re: fake Native 5 FRN CPM S110V?

The FRN doesn't look fake to me. As far as I know, no other company has managed to perfectly duplicate Spyderco's FRN molds, and that handle is exactly like the ones on my Natives. It's hard to tell in your photo, but the clip seems to be fine as well -- I have a Native with a slightly-darker-than-t...
