Re: When did Spyderco start marking blades with Steel type?

Spyderco's literature before about 1997 is pretty sparse. I've always thought that the Company website should have a section dedicated to past catalogs and literature. I don't know how complete of a set of past catalogs, flyers, etc., is in the Company Archives, but all that stuff should be scanned ...

Re: Ultra-Classic Sprint Run?? Which Blade Steel?

Believe it or not, Spyderco has never done a Sprint Run of the C04 Executive, one of the all-time classic models, and for the life of me I can't understand why. After the C09 CoPilot, the C04 Executive is my next favorite Spyderco. I've always thought that the design of the knife was one of Sal's be...

Re: Sal 1981

I bought a Sharpmaker around that time at a Sportsman show here in Pittsburgh.. Wonder if I bought it from Sal??? HMMMM.. John I bought one at the Texas State Fair probably even earlier than that, and I still have it. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a370/bjd70/Knives/DSC_2199b_zpsmtskvd5h.jpg htt...

Re: Spyderco C09 CoPilot Varieties

Hi The CoPilot, Could you tell me a little info about my new to me copilot? Not a brass-lined beauty like above but still nice :) http://i.imgur.com/YkSdWk2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/IkPxIwr.jpg It's a C09S, with a G-2 marked blade. Probably produced around 1992-1995. Look inside and see if it has the...

Re: Will there ever be a Police with a coated blade?

There was a Black-Ti (titanium carbonitride) version produced and sold by Spyderco in the late 1980s.

Amongst the list of 102 of the best "Most Interesting Man in the World" quotes... Quote #16… “He once brought a knife to a gunfight… just to even the odds.” (Source: http://www.livin3.com/100-most-interesting-man-in-the-world-quotes) Definitely sounds like it could apply to Sal! :D :D :D

Re: When did Spyderco start marking blades with Steel type?

I have my first Endura that I bought in 92. It is marked G2. No box, just the knife. I'm 85% confident it was in 92. Thanks for the help. We are zeroing this in. 1992 may be the date that the first knives were marked with the steel type. Anybody else have G-2 marked blades that they bought around 1...

Re: Sal 1981

I wonder if Sal still has that suit, must be worth a fortune by now :D Were the sharpmaker stones longer back then? I don't think the stones were longer back then, but the camera angle that the photographer chose certainly makes them look that way. Not entirely sure which model of the Sharpmaker th...

Sal: Is this the original Spyderco 201 Sharpmaker?

There pics are not mine, but I found them online and was curious to know if this was the first iteration of the Sharpmaker that was introduced at the Texas State Fair in October 1978? I figured you might know... :D

Sal 1981

A Google search turned up this picture of Sal from April 1981 demonstrating the Sharpmaker. I thought he (and everyone else) would get a kick out of it. Here is the caption that goes with the picture: "APR 7 1981, APR 8 1981; Inventor Demonstrates Ceramic Sharpening System; Sal Glesser develope...

This is entirely possible. Anyone else have marked knives that they know they bought in 1992 (or even 1991)?

When did Spyderco start marking blades with Steel type?

Need some help here. I'm trying to pin down what year Spyderco first started marking the blade steel type on their blades. I know that it was in the early 1990s and that when the Endura and Delica were introduced in 1990 the blades did not indicate the steel type (they just said "SPYDERCO"...

Re: CoPilot question - follow up

Sal: I just ran across this reply you posted (in 2012) regarding my questions about Spyderco's production of left-handed CoPilots. Unfortunately, I did not see the post at the time. :( The information that Susan uncovered about when the lefties were made fits completely with my personal observations...

Do you, by chance, have the box for that knife Nirvanero? I would love to see a picture of the box label for that knife.

Re: Spyderco C09 CoPilot Varieties

Nivero's CoPilot is an unusual one because it has both brass liners AND a blade marked G-2 stainless. It is from a later run of brass lined CoPilots that were produced after Spyderco started marking blades with the steel type.

Please do dig out your CoPilot and post a picture of it here for everyone to enjoy. That is what this thre...

That is a beauty, Nivanero! I can't quite tell from the picture but does yours have brass liners by chance? Yes, those brass liners really make this simple little knife feel classy. I'll take more pics of it, vintage stuff is always nice to watch... :) Please do take some more photos of your knife ...
