Re: An Original Two-Screw Worker

Hey Sal:

Do you recall if you ever set up a booth at the Nebraska State Fair in Lincoln during those early years?

Re: An Original Two-Screw Worker

FYI, Gail and I had to hock our house to cover the cost of the first run of the Clipit knife, which most said would fail in the marketplace. Talk about "risk" We sold our knives along with our Sharpeners at consumer shows and fairs. It was many years before any stores or dealers ( Brick a...

Re: An Original Two-Screw Worker

The clip side on mine is clearly thicker so must be a Gen 2. Hah, learn something new everyday :) The clip is original. That makes perfect sense and explains why the clip has the earlier markings. Those workers with the uneven scales (one thin and one thin) are very cool because they show the trans...

Re: An Original Two-Screw Worker

https://i.imgur.com/lu2Oonbh.jpg This is an interesting example. Are both handle scales of the same thickness? As I recall, the earliest (Gen 1) had the two-screw clip and both scales were thin. The Gen 2 knives had one thin scale and a thicker scale on the side with the clip (and I believe it was ...

Love seeing that 1982 Price list.

The 1001R and 1001L "Clipit" lock back folding knives were the knives that came to be known as the Worker. Back then they were the only knives in the Spyderco lineup so just calling them "Clipits" sufficed.

An Original Two-Screw Worker

Here's one that you don't see everyday. I thought I would post this one up again since it has been quite a few years since it has seen the light, and I happened to have it with me today. This is an original two-screw Spyderco Worker. Sal refers to these as the "1st Generation" Workers, and...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Classic vintage Spydies in my pocket today. Brass-lined C09 Copilots (Although at the time these were made the model designation was “1009”). Both of these were made in 1987 (33 years ago now) and were part of the first run of Copilots. Still lock up strong with a reassuring “CLICK.” Timeless design...

Re: A question only Sal will know the answer to...

Just curious, but has anyone turned up any more brass-lined Copilots with blades marked “G-2” in the time since I originally last posted on this thread back in 2017?

Re: Spyderco C09 CoPilot Varieties

Been a few years since I have kicked this thread “back to the top” so I figured I would give it another boot. Probably lots of new users here who are not all that familiar with this remarkable little knife. Go all the way back to the first post of this thread and enjoy the walk down memory lane. Reg...

Re: Why does Spyderco allow this?

It's a long story. The short version is that Spyderco didn't allow it. I won't get into the particulars in light of Sal's request that we leave "shiny footprints" here and not speak ill of other manufacturers.

Nope. I try to minimize any income tax overpayment. No sense in me loaning money interest-free to Uncle Sam for a year.

The VG10 on my Enduras, Delica, and others is one of the cleanest, nicest shiniest looking, toughest, most robust and durable steel alloys I have ever used and known.
I absolutely agree 100%!

Re: Sal: C04 Sprint Run? (or a new C09 CoPilot Sprint Run)

The more I've thought about it, the more I like the idea of a brass liner. Together with an aluminum handle would make a sharp looking little gents knife. I would be very interested in hearing Sal's thoughts on ever doing brass liners again. They do look really classy, I will have to admit that. As...

Re: Sal, any possibility of a Scandium knife?

I will be watching the response to this thread with interest. It sounds like a very interesting material for a potential handle scales. I'd love to see a Sprint Run C09 CoPilot be the first Spyderco knife to utilize this material. It looks like Airbus is been working with a Scandium/Aluminum alloy k...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

2017 marks the 30th Anniversary of the C09 CoPilot. Today am carrying a pair of those original brass-lined CoPilots from 1987: C09P and C09S. These were just received back this morning from a trip to the Spydie Spa (Spyderco Warranty and Repair) where they were resharpened and had the handles recond...

Anyone else interested in seeing a new Sprint Run of the C09 CoPilot? What are you thoughts on the blade and handle material? What kind of a retail price point would you like to see the knife be at?

Carrying a pair of favorites today: the C32 Spur (2005 Sprint Run edition) in both PE and CE. Notice the matching Collector's Club number (029V). I bought the plain edge variety through another forum. Years later the combo edge partner turned up on Ebay and I convinced the seller that he needed to ...

Re: Sal: C04 Sprint Run? (or a new C09 CoPilot Sprint Run)

Here's something to ponder: the first run of the C09 CoPilot had brass liners which many people think gave the knives an extra touch of class. What would you think of handle scales made of Aluminum Bronze (AlBr) alloy? This alloy is used in the tool industry to create non-sparking hand tools for use...

Re: Sal: C04 Sprint Run? (or a new C09 CoPilot Sprint Run)

It would be great if they used an Aluminum + Scandium handle. Lighter and stronger than Titanium. That is an interesting concept! Any idea how expensive it would be to use Scandium aluminum for the scales? Has Spyderco ever done a Scandium handle scale before? If I understand it correctly the Scand...
