Maybe I'm just old school but if you need layaway to purchase a Spyderco knife you have far bigger things to worry about than trying to acquire their latest offerings....just my harsh 2 cents.

Don't give up though guys. The laws were really strict in Australia (no flippers or knives which can be wrist flicked open)but last year they officially relaxed the laws. The examples of bushed pivots I have been able to get my hands on, I really like, but it makes them difficult for me to import, which is a big negative for us Spydie fans with tight laws.

Sorry can't help with original question, but from what I have read carbidized lock faces are more about creating a rough surface(for slip resistance) than increasing toughness, as the added layer is very thin and does not stop deformation of the base metal.
