Re: Philosophy of locks

I'm concerned about lock reliability. I don't want the knife to close until I choose to close it. The only common lock mechanism that gives me some concern is the liner lock. I will use a knife with a liner lock, but only if that model has a proven track record. I'm also wary of liner lock mechanism...

Re: Linerless: Any issues?

My Pacific Salt locks up like the proverbial bank vault. I can honestly say that it locks up tighter than any other Spyderco backlock I have owned.

It has seen a lot of use since I took this picture, and I haven't even had to tighten the pivot.

Re: Stickers on your car - good or bad?

I prefer to err on the side of "mildly paranoid," so no stickers for me. Some of my military colleagues choose to prominently display military stickers on their cars. While I appreciate their pride, my concern is that it might tempt thieves to break into the trunk in the hopes of finding e...

Re: Lc200n Manix 2 LW Interest Poll

Absolutely. I'm not a huge fan of BD1 or S110V; however, LC200N would be perfect for me. I think the BD1N is a real upgrade on this knife. I've owned the BD1 version pretty much forever (multiples actually) as well as almost every other variant. I bought the BD1N so I could get a good comparison on...

Re: Neck Knives? Good or Bad?

I've owned neck knives made by Murray Carter. The ergonomics were amazing. When carried under a shirt as an EDC, deployment is easier than one might think; however, I feel that a folder clipped to the pocket is easier yet. A potential advantage is weight distribution. Instead of having a lot of weig...

Re: Spyderco/Murray Carter Kitchen Knife Collaboration.

I have a lot of respect for Murray Carter. In my opinion, he's confident, but I've never experienced him as arrogant. He's committed to the art of traditional Japanese knife forging, so he's not focused on complex alloys. I've never used one of his kitchen knives, but I've owned three of his neck kn...

Re: Tactical Pens Revisited

A standard pen can be used to stab an attacker for the purpose of creating distance. For example, an attacker grabs you, so you stab a soft tissue area until he lets go and steps back, at which point you run or draw your gun. A tactical pen can be used to stab; however, the robust ones can also be u...

Re: Well this hobby is about to get more expensive.......

Winkler makes top-shelf knives. Some of their models tend to be thick behind the edge for sake of durability, so you might find that you want to thin it to improve cutting performance. That's true of a lot of today's fixed blades though.

Re: New Carrying Bag? Or Fanny Pack?

My pants have cargo pockets, so I usually have plenty of storage space for my daily carry needs. If I need more, I'll usually reach for a backpack. However, I have to admit that I like the idea of a messenger bag. Perhaps it's time to give one a try. As for fanny packs, I will use them in the woods,...

Re: Auto Storage

I agree with those who have said that storing an auto closed is a non-issue. If it is a collector's piece that is never going to see use, then I'd just assume store it open, especially if it is in a display case. However, all of my knives are users, and I recognize that the springs are likely to wea...

Depending on what you need, it's hard to go wrong with a PM2. In my opinion, the PM2 is as close to perfect as a folder can be.

Re: Your "return ethics"?

My primary ethic is to honor the dealer's return policy. If that return policy allows me to return a knife simply because I'm not happy with it, then I have no problem doing so. The downside of buying an item online is that I can't handle it in advance. A good return policy compensates for this. Per...

Re: Spyderedged Blades: A Total Mis-Understanding Maybe?

I remember when partially serrated edges were extremely popular; however, when I tried a knife with a partially serrated edge, the experience turned me off to serrations in general. Then a few years ago, some well-written forum posts caused me to rethink the matter. The individuals who wrote the pos...

Re: What knives have made the change to BD1N?

Also, I only got hits on the translucent blue option. It may be the case that this colour is more popular than the others, thus has a higher rate of restocking compared to black and black/DLC. Time will tell. This is what I've been wondering. I'm in the market for a black/black Manix 2 LW, but I'm ...
